Moon festival

Mid-Autumn (Moon) festival is one of the most significant events in many East Asian cultures. This tradition of celebrating and worshipping the moon dates back 3000 years. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month on the lunar-solar calendar during a full moon.

This festivity originally was celebrated in hope for an abundant harvest in autumn. The full moon itself symbolises the concept of “wholesomeness” and “unity” which is deemed as good luck and prosperity. It is where families will reunite on this day and carry out various rituals to honour the tradition of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

This year the Mid-Autumn Festival fell on 1 October and the EAL and International Leaders share ways our school community could join the celebrations in remote learning through mooncake making, lantern creating and moon gazing.

A competition was also held for the best poster for Mid-Autumn festival and the winner received bonus house points! Congratulations to Aiswarya Fanci who won the competition!

Thank you to everyone else who participated in this competition as well!
