Day for Daniel

30th October 2020

On Friday, 30th October, it is ‘Day for Daniel’.

Dear Parents and Carers,

‘Day for Daniel’ is an initiative by the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

‘The Daniel Morcombe Foundation provides personal child safety education to children and young people to prevent abuse and promote lifelong health and wellbeing. We support educators, parents, and carers through the provision of resources and education and also directly support young victims of crime.’ (www.danielmorcombefoundation.com.au)

Why do we celebrate Day for Daniel?

‘Day for Daniel’ gives us all the opportunity to stop and reflect on the safety of all our students and children. At St John Vianney’s, our students’ safety is paramount. It gives us a chance to talk to the students about safety and what to do when they don’t feel safe.

When is St John Vianney’s ‘Day for Daniel’?

Our day will be held on Friday the 30th of October

What does ‘Day for Daniel’ look like at St John Vianney’s?

During our celebration of ‘Day for Daniel’, the students at St John Vianney’s will take part in some classroom activities around safety for children. We will investigate when and how to seek help when needed.

Our younger classes (prep to 2) will take part in 'Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson Early Years and Junior Primary 2020'(the lesson is linked and you can view it). This includes 'feeling safe', 'secrets and surprises', and 'safety helpers and resilience in help-seeking'. Please take the time to have a look at the lesson and have a discussion with your child.

The middle and senior students (3-6) will take part in a lesson that is focussing on

  • 'the online world'
  • 'recognise, react and report'
  • 'online safety tips'
  • 'e-safety commissioner'
  • 'Brain Science and the Online World'
  • 'Looking out for a Friend'

Do the students have to bring anything?

We ask the students to wear a touch of red for this event.

Thank you for supporting the school and the ‘Day for Daniel’.

Please ask your class teacher or email Mr Ru (rlameijn@sjvmulgrave.catholic.edu.au) if you have any questions regarding ‘Day for Daniel’

Kind Regards,
