Grade Six
Grade 6 Report
Welcome back!
It has been a challenging year for most people, but we are excited to be back at school seeing our friends and teachers. Many of our planned Grade 6 activities have been cancelled due to the pandemic. But the wonderful teachers are still trying to fit as many activities as they can into the end of the year, and I’m going to talk about a couple of them now.
We are making books for our buddies, fittingly dubbed Buddy Books. We have looked at two types of picture books, the first including repetition. Repetition is when a story uses the same word or phrase repeatedly throughout the story. The second picture book feature we have studied is character flaws. Character flaws are things that aren't perfect about a character, such as the character is too loud. Often the story goes on to show that the character either fixes it, or they use their flaw as a positive and save the day. This has been a great experience for the Grade 6’s to explore deeper into children's books, seeing what rules apply to the structure of the writing and such.
This term, the Grade 6’s have been working on recipes to make for Masterchef. Some classes have already taken part, and some are doing it next week. Masterchef is an exciting opportunity to cook and create food. The judges will be judging our meals on presentation, creativity and teamwork. Each team consists of two students, one making the main and the other making the dessert. We can’t wait to see who the winners are.
