Principal's News

Welcome everyone to our newsletter
We have now only two full weeks left for the children in term 4. The year seems to have flown by. After the last lockdown, and having the students spend so much time at home, the start of term 4 felt a bit like the start of the year not the end! Soon students will be on holiday until the end of January. It is a credit to the children how well they have settled back into school life.
It was very good to have more COVID restrictions eased last weekend. At the time of writing the newsletter we are waiting to hear what implications the announcements on Sunday will have on school operations.
Being that we are at the end of week 8 it is getting too close to the end of the school year to make any major changes to Graduation and Prize Giving. The senior teachers have organised a special Graduation day for the grade 6 students and classroom teachers are working together for Prize Giving. There will be more information sent out next week with details for parents to watch both occasions online.
National Community Hubs Program
An exciting thing for the school in 2021 will be starting our school Hub as part of the National Community Hubs Program. This program gives the school funding for the Hub and advice and guidance for the Hub Leader. The Hub will cater for the needs of people in the community. Usually the people using the Hubs are mothers with young children. The Hub’s role is to supply the people attending with whatever support they need. As our Hub grows it will develop its own direction and way of operating in order to meet the needs of its members.
The Community Hub was going to happen this year but COVID stopped preparation. During term 1 2021 we will be advertising for a Hub leader. This will be the first exciting step in creating our Community Hub.
Enrolments for 2021
Preparation for 2021 is near completion and I expect that very soon we will be sending information home about school structure.
I have put a reminder about enrolments for 2021 below. We still have parents enquiring about 2021 and collecting enrolment documentation. If you have a family member or friend who may be interested in enrolling at our school, it is not too late! We often get enrolments right up to the end of the year and at times have even had children turn up on the first day of school in the new year ready to enrol.
Is your child’s medical information up to date?
In the last week or so there have been a number of days that have a high pollen count in the air which can cause asthma symptoms in children who have asthma. On the high pollen days we are keeping any children who we know are asthmatic inside during recess. We have a number of children who are asthmatic and they play together under supervision in the library.
If your child has asthma please make sure this is listed on Operoo and you have an up to date asthma management plan. Or alternatively, please phone the office and let us know so that we can look after your child appropriately.
Prep enrolments for 2021 are open! If you have a child or know of someone with a school-aged child who would like to attend our school, please email me at principal@hfdoveton.catholic.edu.au.
Also if your child is not returning to Holy Family in 2021 could you please let me know.
God Bless
