BOOK WEEK CELEBRATION

Don't forget our whole-school Book Week Celebration Day will take place next Monday, November 2nd. While we will be unable to have our usual whole-school parade and cross-class activities, within their own year levels, students will share favourite books and participate in fun activities that celebrate our love of reading.

On this day, students are invited to dress up as a favourite book character, author or illustrator. Families should not feel the need to buy costumes – we encourage you to be creative with whatever you have at home or to make simple costumes and props. With the participation of all, we can create a marvellous sense of excitement and celebration on this special day!

BIKE MAINTENANCE HELP

We were recently contacted by a local Year 9 student who was wanting to help locals for his school Community Project.

My name is Liam Barta and I am a Year 9 student at Caulfield Grammar School. I live in Murrumbeena and previously attended Murrumbeena Primary School. My hobbies include playing AFL with the Murrumbeena Football Club, bike riding, skiing, and walking my dog.

At school I am studying a subject called Learning Journeys. My class has been set a Community Project in which our task is to help a local community in some way. Since the COVID-19 lockdown started in Victoria there have been a number of newspaper articles commenting on the increase in numbers of people riding their bicycles for exercise and social interaction.

I ride my bicycle a lot and I have noticed that many casual riders don’t have their bikes set up properly or know how to change a tyre. I thought it might be great to help primary school students learn about bike maintenance so I have created two videos. See the items below and click on the links to learn more!

  1. Basic Bike Maintenance (4 minutes) is for students from grades Prep to 6. The younger students can learn from this video but may need assistance from a grown up to perform the activities.

  2. How to Change a Bike Tyre (5 minutes) is best suited for students in grades 4 to 6.

I hope my videos are useful and help you keep your bicycles in good condition, and make your rides more fun!
