Congratulations to our Year 10 students who were successful in their applications for SKYLINE Scholarships
WHAT IS THE SKYLINE PROGRAM?
The Skyline Program is the key initiative of Skyline Education Foundation Australia. Students who enter the program receive a range of benefits in three key areas that will enhance their educational opportunities and equip students with the best chance of success at school and in life.
STUDENT BENEFITS OF THE SKYLINE PROGRAM IN THREE KEY AREAS
1. SUPPORT FRAMEWORK Skyline has a dedicated program team who, in partnership with the school and companion teachers, provide extensive educational, emotional and practical support and resources to help students throughout the VCE and whilst participating in the Program. Students are offered one to one support when deciding on their pathway, VTAC requirements, applying for places, Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS) applications and scholarships for tertiary institutions. Students are further supported after they complete VCE, graduate the Skyline Program and are welcomed into Skyline's Alumni Association. This Association will help graduates to apply for internships, and organises social and professional events.
2. FINANCIAL REIMBURSEMENT AND SUBSIDY
Skyline meets all or part of the education costs and expenses for students during the two-year VCE (year 11 & 12) period. Skyline will reimburse or subsidise expenses such as school levies and fees, textbooks, uniforms, materials and academic requirements, travel and excursions on an individual student needs basis.
3. TRANSFORMATIVE LEARNING EXPERIENCES
Over the two year Program, Skyline will conduct a series of masterclasses and residential programs that must be attended by all students. These transformative learning experiences are designed to help students survive, thrive and lead in an ever-changing educational and economic landscape. The classes combine facets of conceptual, analytical and disciplined thinking, and education and career guidance with respectful care of the individual & their circumstances.
• Residential Program. A 2.5 day residential program will be held mid January 2020 at Trinity College, University of Melbourne
• Masterclass Program. The day long masterclasses are held three times during the year- in April, July and September
The Skyline Program classes are compulsory, are held during school holidays and provided at no cost to students. Costs of the classes are covered by funding allocated to each student.
From time to time Skyline offers additional 'special scholarships' given to Skyline students by other Education and Not For Profit partners such as Western Chances, Crimson Medview (preparation for entry to Medicine), and The McWhirter Conference.
Four year ten students were shortlisted for the Scholarship earlier this year.
They were interviewed individually and had to meet a range of additional criteria in order to be recommended for the scholarship.
Two of our students, Darren Lim and Jasper Hope were highly commended for their applications. Julian Schmidt- Heron and Mohammed Elfaki have both received Scholarship offers.
Congratulations to all four of our students who reached the shortlist from a group of nearly 200 students from a range of schools. Congratulations Julian and Mohammed for your success in gaining the Scholarship. We look forward to hearing about the activities and support provided by Skyline and encourage future year 10 students to think about applying for this wonderful opportunity for support and mentoring during the senior years of school.
