Transition

Students at CSPS have been taking part in our transition program.  Step up – Kinder to Foundation students. This year the program has been a little different with students visiting in small groups of 5 for a play and attending an Early Years Evaluation session with a one-on-one session with a staff member. Step-Through – Foundation to Year 5 – Students have attended 2 out of 3 sessions in the level above. The focus has been English, Mathematics and the final one in week 11, when the students will meet their new class and teacher whilst working on Well Being activities. Step On – Year 6 to Year 7 transition. This also has looked a little different this year but will be occurring with the Secondary Colleges managing this.

Foundation 2021 Transition

Over the last few weeks, we have welcomed our Foundations for 2021 to our school. All our new students have completed an Early Years Evaluation and last Friday they were able to come together in small groups to visit the school for a play session. We visited the playground, the Kitchen Garden, took a look at our classrooms and got to meet some new friends. We look forward to welcoming the final group this week. Information regarding teacher and classroom allocations will be sent to Foundation families, by post, in Week 11 and all other classes via a notice sent home.

Senior School Bizarre Bazaar

Next week the Senior School Bizarre Bazaar is being held. The Senior students have been busy making their products for the students to buy. Each class in the school will be scheduled to attend to purchase items. All proceeds will go towards selected charities UNICEF and World Wildlife Fund.  Stay tuned for more details.  Here is a sample of what goods the Year 5 students have on offer.

Assessment of Learning

Since the return to onsite learning staff and students have been working with a focus on learning and assessment. Teachers have been working in teams to use the data to make consistent judgments in readiness for the end of year reports.

Due to the interruption to onsite learning during 2020 some parents may notice that their children have not made 12 months growth in the 12 months since the last reports. This may have occurred for a variety of reasons.  For example, the evidence or data results may not reflect enough growth, the content may not have been covered or students may not have shown multiple examples of their knowledge.  Classroom teachers will contact parents to discuss this prior to reports coming home. The focus in 2021 will be on Learning, catch up and extension for all students. Students learning needs will be targeted, with particular emphasis on English and Mathematics.  Some students may be placed on Individual Education Programs for 2021 which will allow the school and home to work in partnership.

Semester 2 Reports

Student reporting in Semester 2 this year will reflect adjustments that CSPS have made to curriculum programs in response to the needs of the school community, and the disruption caused by coronavirus (COVID-19). In some cases, this may mean that less curriculum content was covered than was planned.

Student reporting in Semester 2, 2020 will focus on what progress has been made and what has been achieved by each child.

To meet the F-10 student reporting requirements for Semester 2, teachers must

provide a written report (print or digital) in an accessible form and easy for parents or carers to understand for Semester 2, 2020.

For English and Mathematics, teachers must provide a short description of what was taught; and report achievement by making a teacher judgement against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 achievement standards.

For all other curriculum areas delivered, schools must provide a short description of what was taught and a short comment on progress and achievement in their learning across the semester.

Schools must also provide a comment on student participation and engagement in the learning program offered in Semester 2, 2020 with reference to the Personal and Social Capability in the curriculum.

Reports will be sent home digitally via Compass in the last week of term.  If you have any questions about the reporting process please email Karen Halket  karenh@cranbournesouth.vic.edu.au or your classroom teacher.

Google Meet from Hawaii

The Year 1 students had the opportunity to participate in a Google Meet with Indigo who is currently living in Hawaii. Indigo is a former student of CSPS and will be returning back to school for the 2021 school year as a Year 2 student. It was an amazing experience for the students to talk to Indigo and learn about life in Hawaii and they were fascinated by the time difference. We look forward to Indigo joining us next year.
