Our School Vision

“Cheltenham East students are empowered learners who are flexible thinkers with the skills and knowledge to respond critically and creatively to their world.”

Acknowledgement

Some of our Year 3/4 students will be doing an acknowledgement to Country each Monday morning at 9am over the loud speaker.  This week it was Dylan & Izaac from 34B

I would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which we are gathered and pay our respects to the elders past, present and emerging of the Bunurong people and extend that respect to other indigenous Australians in the community.

Book Week

Next week is Book Week with a Book Character Parade taking place on Tuesday morning. The book store will be set up for sales before and after school for the purchase of books. The children will visit the book sales at some stage during the week to have a look at the various texts for sale. Thankyou to Mrs Douglas for organising the book week activities. It certainly shines a light on reading good quality  books which is always so important for our children.

It’s Story Time - Foundation Transition

Last Friday saw the third of our transition visits for next year’s Foundation children take place. They participated in literacy activities in class for an hour. Each visit should see them gain a little in confidence as they get used to routines and where everything is located. Thank you to the parents who served afternoon tea in the hall, it was really appreciated.

Working Bee

There will be a working bee at the school on Sunday September 11th from 10am to 2pm. This is an opportunity to get important jobs completed. There is a lot of work around the school to do and the more families we have in attendance the more jobs we can tick off. There is a flyer out on Dojo for people to sign up and contribute.

NAPLAN Results

Next week the National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) results will come out for all schools. All Year 3 and 5 students sat the tests in Term 2 for Reading, Grammar and Punctuation, Writing, Numeracy and Spelling. The results will be used to plan future programs around the strengths and weaknesses of the students. All Year 3 and 5 parents will receive individual results for their children.

Student Agency

Our school captains have once again come to the School Council meeting and asked on behalf of the Junior School Council to fund some of the ideas and initiatives they have to make the school better. High on the agenda are new basketball back boards, sports equipment, books and new matting for the cricket pitch.

Principal Class Forum

Mrs Ward and I are attending the South-Eastern Leadership forum in Caulfield on Friday. We are joining many of our fellow Principals and Assistant Principals not just from this network but throughout the region. This is very valuable professional development for both of us and we will look forward to sharing it with our staff and school community in the near future.

Extra- Curricular Activities

Extra -curricular activities are an important part of our school program. These activities are not compulsory curriculum areas, but complement and strengthen core curricular programs and fit into our school community ethos. It would be rare to have a week go by at CEPS when we would not have some kind of extra-curricular activity! Teachers give up their lunchtimes in some cases to mentor the children eg Gardening/Environment, Art Club, Library time, Chess club, Lego Club etc

Enrol Now for 2023

We are open for 2023 enrolments and forms can be collected at the Office. If you have a child turning 5 by April 30, 2022, please complete an enrolment form and bring in a copy of your child’s birth certificate and immunisation record and we will process the enrolment immediately. It helps us enormously with planning, if we have a clear indication of enrolments as early as possible.

Cut down on Litter

We actively encourage our students to avoid bringing packets and plastic wrappers (Nude Food) to school. It cuts down on litter and is much better for the environment. A named container is perfect.

School Values

The children will continue working closely together through the coming winter months. This is a great time to reinforce our school values of RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, COURTESY and CO-OPERATION with all children. Filling someone’s bucket of kindness should be a priority for all children and adults. Helping others is to be encouraged by everyone and can be done in a variety of ways. It is great to see our Year 6 children looking after the younger children out in the yard.
