Japanese

This week in Japanese:

Every week more students greet me in Japanese in the morning or when I see them at school, which is a delight. I even overheard a Foundation student counting in Japanese in his Math lesson! Keep it up Monty language learners!

Year 5 and 6 students have been working on ordering food and shopping this term. They have also been discussing cultural and language differences related to customer service in Japan. Many students have enjoyed trying out role plays and are now able to use Japanese sentences to order food. Well done YR5/6!

Year 2

Year 2 students have been learning to tell the folk story of the Enormous Turnip in Japanese. Many students remember the phrases used in the story and have been retelling the story with great enthusiasm! Fantastic work Year 2!

Foundation

Foundation students have been learning about colours and shapes in Japanese this term. They also looked at a traditional Japanese pattern called ‘Asanoha’ and created their own version. Asa is a resilient plant which grows straight and fast. As this pattern symbolizes strong and healthy growth and resilience, it is often used on garments for babies and children in Japan.
