Grade 5/6 Students

Celebrating our fantastic Fives and sensational Sixes!

5/6A - Miss Lee

Welcome to our last week and to a classroom bursting with creativity and wonder till the very end. It has been time for students to present their tennis ball launchers on the oval. We had hand held models and 6 foot high models. Here, we have Saige and her “Flinger” and Liam and his “Slammer”. We had balls launched as far as 3 centimetres and balls launched as far as 30 metres. All of the students shared their construction specifications and shared adjustments that were required to improve their models. It has been an exciting homework project and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

5/6B - Mr Sankovic

As part of our design and technology unit the students of 5/6B looked at how energy is transferred from one object to another. To explore this, we made Rube Goldberg machines! The students were required to complete a simple task in a rather complicated way. Essentially they needed to get a marble to land in a cup. The results were impressive to say the least!

Adding and subtracting positive & negative integers!

This week in 5/6C we have been partnering with students from 5/6D with our maths lessons and developing our own posters explaining how to add and subtract both positive and negative integers. Parents & Guardians pay attention to this one because your kids could be coming home with something to even teach you this week! Here is Jennara & Suchitha’s poster along with some of their own worded problems! Great work!

Procedure writing

This week we have also wrapped up our procedure writing with students choosing from a range of topics. They could choose between ‘How to annoy Mr Josh’, ‘How to get a day off school’ or even choose something they are an expert at! I’m still not sure if this piece of writing is both ‘How to get a day off school’ or something they’re an expert at! Maybe both!

 5/6D - Mr Jared

Graphing the efficiency of her tennis ball launcher for our integrated unit. Yellow was the first effort, Orange is the final result! Fabulous!
