Leadership @ MPS

At our final assembly today, it was very clear that the students are joyous about not only football, but the upcoming holiday break! It has been another very busy term and the opportunity for rest and reflection is welcomed by all, I am sure. Thank you to both staff and families for their time at the recent Parent Teacher conferences - these are valuable occasions for sharing information on student progress and the teachers appreciated the feedback from the parents. We are also so glad that these could happen face-to-face, finally! It is hard to believe we have packed so much into the term: camps, excursions, interschool sport, classroom sharing evening, parent and teacher conferences, and of course, the continuous learning and fun that happens every day in the classrooms with our marvellous students and teachers.

There is so much to look forward to in Term 4, too, not the least of which is the beginning of our exciting building project. More on this soon.

Annual Parent/Caregiver Survey

Thank you those that have been able to find the time to complete the annual DET school survey. If you have been one of the lucky ones selected, we would really appreciate your input. The survey will be close today- Friday 16th September, so there's still a little bit of time left!

Staff Update

  • Mrs Janene Worsam

Our principal will return from leave, refreshed and ready for Term 4!

  • Mrs Rebekah Rentos

Our Assistant Principal, Mrs Rentos, will be back with us from her time with the Department of Education office, in Week 3 of Term 4.

  • Mrs Natalie Hattam – new School Nurse appointed

We are thrilled to welcome Natalie to the role of our School Nurse in Term 4. Mrs Hattam comes to us here at Montmorency Primary with a wealth of experience in nursing children having worked in NICU at the Royal Children’s Hospital for over six years and has been a Registered Div. 1 Nurse at different hospitals, predominantly caring for children, for over eighteen years. She loves working with children and has strong connections to the local community. She is very excited about getting to know all of the children and their individual needs at MPS and supporting them in her nursing capacity over the coming years. Welcome to MPS, Natalie!

  • Miss Amy Brook

Miss Brook will be coming out of the 3/4 classroom as teacher in Term 4, whilst she awaits confirmation of a place in the Victorian Police Force. Miss Brook has been working towards the goal of joining the Police since the beginning of this year and we thoroughly support her as she moves closer to making this brave and exciting career change. She is in the final selection stages of the long recruitment process and now awaits a date to begin her training at the Police Academy. Well done, Miss Brook- we are so excited for you to begin this new opportunity and chase your dreams!

  • Mr Dominic Bolger

Mr Bolger will replace Miss Brook as the 3/4B classroom teacher for the remainder of the year, from the beginning of Term 4. We are extremely fortunate to have secured Mr Bolger– I know that the children will connect with him in no time at all. In the first few weeks of Term 4, Amy will take on numerous roles as she awaits her start date for the Victorian Police Force training. While she is still with us in Term 4, she will be supporting Dominic in a smooth transition into Grade 3/4B, assisting leadership with daily organization/school operations as well as taking some PE classes. Grade 3/4 families had opportunity to meet Dominic (with Miss Brook) at the recent Parent Teacher Interviews last week and he has had a thorough handover from Miss Brook.

Updated Department of Education information in relation to COVID Safe practices.

COVID-19 isolation requirements have changed. Any student or staff member who tests positive to COVID-19 must now isolate for a minimum of 5 days instead of 7. If they are asymptomatic, they may return to school on day 6. If they are symptomatic, they must remain in isolation until day 7. If they have symptoms after 7 days, they are strongly advised to stay home until their symptoms have resolved. As an additional risk mitigation, the Department of Health strongly recommends that those leaving isolation wear a face mask when away from home, both indoors and outdoors, and when they cannot physically distance. Those leaving isolation on day 6 should wear a mask for 5 days but particularly the first 2 days. Those leaving isolation on day 7 should wear a mask for 4 days but particularly the first 2 days. Those leaving isolation should consider taking a rapid antigen test before attending school.

I hope the term break provides everyone some time to rest and relax, and to enjoy some (hopefully sunny) spring weather with family and friends. Heartfelt thanks to all staff and families who have been so kind and supportive while I have steered the ship in Janene’s absence.

Looking forward to seeing everyone after a safe and happy holiday break, ready for Term 4 on Monday October 3.

Warm regards
