Year 7 News

Music, Health and Daffodils!

We have numerous budding Year 7 musicians, many who have discovered their talent and confidence to perform at community events this year.

Students are receiving Health - Sex Education lessons every Friday this term from Nurse Sarah who is very experienced at delivering age-specific content and answering student questions.

Great to see so many ‘yellow’ students supporting our recent Daffodil Day, which was the Cancer Council’s flagship fundraising event held last Friday.

Chinese Cultural Day Primary School Visit

On Tuesday 23rd August, five Year 7 students visited Yinnar Primary School to assist Chinese Cultural Day. Our students were very helpful and received a lot of positive feedback. They participated in various Chinese culture workshops in the morning as well as a series of Chinese performances at Yinnar Hall. Here are some thoughts from our lovely helpers:

The Yinnar Chinese Cultural Day was an amazing day and experience to help the Primary School kids and teach them more about Chinese culture. It was a fantastic day as in the morning we did cultural workshops. I did a lantern-making workshop with the Grade 5 and 6s with Ms. Sun and we had lots of fun making the lanterns. After their snack, they put on amazing performances, including a fashion show, chicken and tiger dance, kung fu, and a dragon dance. I enjoyed helping and being there to participate.

My experience at Yinnar Primary School was fun to see how the school has evolved over the past 3 terms and see all the younger grades and other students who were in my grade last year. I did a cherry blossom blow painting with the preps with Ms. Li, and they did so well. They were creative in how they decorated their tree. It was fun to work with the preps because they were all so cute and fun to teach and help with their activity.

I went into Grade 2 and 3 with Mr. Yu, we taught them about the Chinese characters and had lots of fun. After that, we watched an amazing performance that all the parents watched. Then for lunch, we had some hot chips at the Yinnar café.

I helped out in Grade 4/5 classroom and did wood printing with Ms. Wang. I learned about some Chinese art culture and the greatest inventions in ancient China. We then watched different Chinese cultural performances and went out for lunch.

I helped out with Miss Han, and we got to do ink blossoms. The Grade 1/2s were very excited and all made some lovely-looking cherry blossoms. We also got to watch Yinnar Primary School do a performance, and most of them had traditional Chinese clothing. They did an amazing job, and I enjoyed the performance a lot.

At last, thank you, Monty and Michelle, for all your hard work preparing for all the activities and performances.

We would also like to thank Cleo for coming and participating in the Chinese show. Without you all, we would not be able to celebrate such a wonderful Chinese Cultural Day!
