Making Music

Making Music

Prep to Grade 2

Over the last couple of weeks, years Prep - Grade 2 have been learning about the orchestral instruments through the story Peter and the Wolf. They have been listening very carefully and are very good at identifying the characters through their different instruments. Until the end of term we will be working with the stories 'Little Red Riding Hood' and 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt'. The children will create soundscapes using different percussion instruments as well as their voices in order to accompany the words.

Grade 3 - 6

Grades 3 - 6 have been doing a lot of work on beat and rhythm and learning to read music notation. Using rhythm sticks, they have been accompanying the song 'Africa' as well as 'Reel around the Sun' from Riverdance. Following on from this, classes have formed small groups and cleverly written their own rhythmic compositions and are in the process of playing them all together as a class in a chair drumming exercise.

For the next few weeks we will be doing a body percussion and dance routine to a hoedown tune, a toe-tapping fun way to end the term!
