Prayer

On Tuesday 15 August we commemorated the Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady into Heaven.

Luke 1: 39-48

"Mary set out in those days and travelled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.

When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the infant leapt in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said "Most blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?  For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.  Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled."

And Mary said "My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.  For he has looked with favour on his lowly servant; from this day all generations will call me blessed. The Almighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name."

The Feast of the Assumption commemorates the belief that when Mary, the mother of Jesus, died, her body was 'assumed' into Heaven to be reunited with her soul, instead of going through the natural process of physical decay upon death.  Mary accepted God's will in her life freely and purely and served God without sin.

So let us pray:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed art thou among women,

and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen

Splinters, Splashes, Sounds and Stage

We look forward to viewing the Major Works from our Year 12 students in Design and Technology, Industrial Design, Visual Arts, Music and Drama.  It will be held onsite on Thursday 25 August from 6.00 pm.

All are welcome.

Year 12 Retreats

Throughout this week our Year 12 students are on Retreat.  They are taking time, following their Trial examinations, to rest, enjoy their friends' company in a relaxed environment and reflect upon the relationships in their lives. I thank the teachers who are leading the Year 12 students on this important last camp in these students' schooling.  I also thank the three Our Lady of Dolours priests who are attending the camps.

Please continue to pray for our Class of 2022 as they have their last weeks in the College and head towards their HSC.

Below is a photo from last night at the Year 12 Tallows Retreat.  We will have more photos in next week's Woodchatta.

Tom Van Dijk Memorial Mass

On Monday 22 August there will be a memorial Mass for the first anniversary of the passing of Thomas Van Dijk (Year 12 2021). The Mass will be held at Our Lady of Dolours Church at 9.00 am followed by morning tea in the College. No parking is available in the school.

Ex-students, parents and friends are welcome to join us in prayer and remembrance. We thank Fr David Ranson for leading us at this Mass.

Any current students who wish to attend will need their parent's permission by sending an email to Mr Sean Brannan - sbrannan@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.

From the College Advisory Council

Seeking interest from Potential New Members for St Pius X College Advisory Council

The College Advisory Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from people willing to take up an appointment to the College Advisory Council or one of its Committees. There are a number of current Council members who are due to conclude their term at the end of 2022.

The College Advisory Council plays an important role in the monitoring of the College’s Governance, Strategic Direction, Financial Management and Property and Facilities. Members are recommended by the College and ultimately appointed by EREA for a 3-year term.

People interested will have a commitment to Catholic Education in the Edmund Rice tradition.

Our College Advisory Council has an excellent mix of female and male members and as an equal opportunity employer we are committed to gender equity and inclusion. The Council is looking for a broad range of skills that respond to its role including but certainly not limited to: construction, project management, finance, and legal services. Involvement in the Council is a rewarding experience with like-minded adults who seek to continue the enhancement of our wonderful school community.

Anyone interested in nominating is invited to complete the attached Expression of Interest and emailing it to admin@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au  Attention: Christine Jennings.

On receiving your response, further contact will be made with prospective Council members.

Students Leaving the College at the end of the year

Parents are reminded that if you are considering a change of schools at the end of the year, it is the policy of the College that a term's notice should be given in writing to the Principal.  As we head towards the end of Term 3, I ask any parents considering a change to make contact with the College.

You are also welcome to contact the College Registrar to discuss any enrolment matters: cjennings@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au.
