On Thursday the 27th of October, Mackellar Primary School will be observing ‘Day for Daniel’. This day is the largest child safety education and awareness day in Australia. ‘Day for Daniel’ honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe by ensuring an ongoing awareness program for child safety

On this day, all classes will conduct a lesson based around Safety Helpers, which is someone that a child feels safe to be around. Daniel was a boy who was unaware of his safety network and the places he could go to get the help that he needed. He entered a stranger’s car and his parents couldn’t find him and they were really worried about him.

For this reason we are encouraging our students to wear red on this day as Daniel was wearing red on the day that he was lost. Our focus will be for students to understand that they have a safety network that they can access help when they feel unsafe.
