School Closure Day

This is a reminder that next Tuesday August 30th, school will be closed as staff will be participating in professional learning.  Teachers and learning support officers will be visiting two schools where they will participate in learning walks through classrooms followed by workshop discussions about how we can continue to progress our learning and teaching strategies at OLHC as part of our School Improvement Plan.  This also forms part of our ongoing professional learning as part of Melbourne Archdiocese Schools Eastern Region School Improvement Learning Collaborative.  Our office staff will also be participating in a network meeting and professional learning on that day.

Help us rejuvenate our Indigenous Garden

Can you help?  We are aiming to rejuvenate our Indigenous Garden by creating a rainbow serpent out of EcoBricks.  You may recall we informed parents of a Landcare grant to assist us.  We are looking for some parent helpers to assist with overseeing this project.  If you are willing to assist please contact Barbara Cumming (Barbara.Cumming@olhceltham.catholic.edu.au) .

We are also asking for donations of EcoBricks to assist us.  We envisage we will need about 200 of them.  Please see the flyer in this newsletter that explains the environmentally helpful process.  We are hoping this will be a great school community effort!

Providing Feedback to Our Lady Help of Christians School

Adapted extract from our Complaints Handling Policy

Our Lady Help of Christians School has procedures and processes in place by which parents/guardians/carers and the broader school community can confidently raise concerns in the knowledge that they will be listened to and their concerns will be professionally managed in a timely, confidential and appropriate manner.

Relationships with the school community are important to us. We take complaints raised by parents/guardians/carers and the broader school community seriously. There are many avenues to provide feedback to school staff. These include:

  • annual formal parent/guardian/carer survey
  • formally scheduled parent/guardian/carer feedback forums
  • meetings with the principal or other staff members to express concerns
  • for concerns/complaints about interactions between students or if they are about general day to day happenings at school, parents/guardians/carers should in the first instance contact their child’s teacher or the teacher known to be with the students at the time.  This often helps resolve concerns by providing context and clarification.
  • for concerns/complaints about interactions between students and teachers or other members of staff, parents/guardians/carers should in the first instance contact the staff member concerned to seek any clarification or context which often helps resolve concerns.
  • Should the concern be of a more sensitive or serious nature it may be more appropriate to contact a member of the school leadership team.  For example, if the concern relates to a student’s wellbeing, the Wellbeing Leader, or for learning and curriculum concerns the Learning and Teacher Leader. Where such clarification does not resolve the concern, parents/guardians/carers and the broader school community should follow the process outlined in the Complaints Handling Policy which is available on this page of our web site

Kind Regards,

Patrick
