RESULTS & ACHIEVEMENTS

Rebel Shield

Girls

Last Wednesday saw round 2 of the Rebel Shield commence. Our ladies team demonstrated excellent composure and defence to restrict Hampton Park to just 10 points. The girls showed great patience with the ball and utilised structure and open space to build a strong lead running out winners 42-10.

Boys

The boys also took on Hampton Park last Wednesday following a defeat to The Grange the week before. Starting the game strong Melton crossed for an early try before Hampton Park hit back. At half time the score read 15-12 to Melton. Missed conversions from Melton kept Hampton Park in the game and on the back of some excellent defence the boys were able to hold on for a hard fought 25-17 win scoring 5 tries to 3.

Rugby League

Cameron Smith Shield

On Thursday last week the Under 14’s boys and girls competed in the Cameron Smith Western Qualifiers. It was a tough day with a number of students backing up from the Rebel Shield the night before. The boys started strong with two hard fought wins over Vic Uni and Baden Powell College. Unfortunately, in the semi finals The Grange proved to strong winning 14-6.

The girls had an exciting day taking on The Grange first up and despite an excellent effort by all participants they were beaten. This meant that they needed a win over Staughton College to reach the final and despite a whole-hearted approach and a massive effort Staughton proved to strong narrowly winning 10-8.

Cameron Munster Shield

On Thursday following a bruising Wednesday night match the Boys and Girls from Melton Secondary travelled to Altona Meadows to participate in the Western Qualifiers NRL Cameron Munster Shield. Due to a massive effort Wednesday night our sides were down on numbers but thankfully multiple students were able to back up and play again.

Boys

The boys had a narrow 12-8 loss against the grange before beating cross town rivals Kurunjang 10-0. This meant that they we had progressed to the semi-finals. Down on numbers due to some injuries the boys just lost a close match against Mt Ridley 6-10.

Girls

The Girls were in for a tough day in the 11-a-side tournament only having 8 players. They beat Manor Lakes who graciously played 8 Vs 8 with a nail biting 14-12 win. This saw them take on Craigieburn who played the full compliment but our girls through some bruising defence ran out winners 14-12. Due to an injury this meant that we would face The Grange in the Final, unfortunately they proved too strong running out winners 42-0.

Congratulations to all participants on the day. A massive thankyou to all the parents and family members who consistently turn up to show support for our teams it is fantastic to see.

A huge thankyou to Mr Darcy for driving the bus and Afu for his support throughout the whole day. We would all like to congratulate every student involved for their effort and commitment to each other and how they represented the school in such a great manner all day.

Training

Training will continue on Monday and Friday afternoons, after school starting at 3:20pm – 4:30pm. Students are reminded to listen for announcements and check Compass regularly for any changes to times or venues.
