Dear Parents are Carers,

It has been an epic Term 3, every student has had either incursions, excursions, or camps. We have had 3 Camps; 7 Excursions 8 Incursions and Footy Day is coming up tomorrow! Last week we had our Senior Education Improvement Leader visiting to watch the outstanding work our 5-6 Teachers have been doing with Maths. It was wonderful to see all the Dads’ and Special People who came to school on the 2nd. As we have Footy Day tomorrow my Dalmatian, Ernie has shown his support for Essendon, while it was not a great season, I’m hopeful we will finish in the Top 8 in 2023!

Our SRC Students came to School Council last week, they presented to the Council about what they have achieved this year, feedback about improving our school and why they love Somerville Primary School. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to provide feedback to School Council about how we can continue to improve our amazing school.

NAPLAN Data

Our School NAPLAN Data has been released, Somerville Primary has continued to show outstanding growth for both Grade 3 and Grade 5. In Grade 3; We have continued to have the majority of students achieving in the Top Two Bands for Reading and Writing and a 9% increase of students in the Top Two Bands for Numeracy. When reviewing the Grade 5 data this year’s results are the best Somerville has ever received. We have beaten the State results for Reading with a record number of students in the Top Two Bands and a 15% increase in the number of students in the Top Two Bands for Writing.

The posts for our Shade Sails have been installed and while we wait for the concrete to set, the sails are being made and we plan to have these installed in coming weeks. This is the first stage of our Shade Sail Project; once we have more defined timeframe, we will let everyone know about our second stage for the Shade Sails.  We also have 100 cubic metres of Soft Fall being pumped onto the playgrounds ready for Term 4 and fresh sand for the three sandpits.

The Mornington Peninsular Shire are going to be installing flashing 40 signs on Eramosa Road East to remind all traffic to slow down as they approach the school and the school crossing.

I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing Term Break before we come back for a very busy and exciting Term 4. Please remind your children to be careful around cars as we want to ensure all children have a safe and happy holiday.

Kind Regards
