Principal's Report

"Family is where life begins and love never ends." - anon

Seeing my family for the first time since the pandemic started was important to me. The importance of the connection is vital to wellbeing. It also helps that the Northern Hemisphere was warm and sunny. It has been a challenging term with extensive student and staff absences due to the flu and COVID. As we head towards school holidays, I hope that you are able to use the time to catch up with family and perhaps even travel to somewhere warmer.

VCE Accreditation

I would like to acknowledge and celebrate the outstanding work of our teachers led by Deb Jarvis in the completion of the VCE Accreditation process. We now have full registration which includes extensive documentation of 31 VCE subjects. We are the first school to complete such an enormous task alongside teaching, feedback, assessing, professional learning and so much more that happens in a school.

Inaugural GAT

Our first ever GAT was held last Thursday for Unit 3/4 students. The students were focused and prepared for the state wide timed assessment. Another successful milestone for our college.

Community Safety & Wellbeing

We have had a number of community safety police talks this term including a whole-school assembly today. This is in response to a range of anti-social and illegal behaviours of adolescents in the community. While this is a small number of young people it is important that students are aware of what is happening so they can make safe choices. We are also hosting a 'Bayside Community Safety & Wellbeing' event in October which you can read more about in this newsletter.

Year 7 2023 Information Night

I look forward to welcoming our 2023 Year 7 students on Thursday. Our student leaders will be leading the information night by sharing what students and families can expect in the first year at Beaumaris Secondary College.

Rapid Antigen Tests

Rapid Antigen Tests will be provided to students if requested. We have found that a great many students are leaving their test boxes in their lockers.

Uniform Price Increase

Bob Stewart have advised that there will be a price increase for the 2022/2023 financial year - the first since the opening of the college 5 years ago.

End of Term

Friday is the last day of term and there is an early dismissal of 2:10pm for students. Each session is shortened to 60 minutes.

We will open the school for students and staff for the last 3 days of school holidays (Wednesday 28 September to Friday 30 September).

I look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 3 October after a well-deserved break.
