School Attendance

Attendance Matters

  • Regular attendance at school is fundamental to student learning. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve educational success and increase their career and life options.
  • Student attendance has been identified as an important aspect of a student’s wellbeing and failure to receive an education has been identified as a risk of harm factor.

If your child has to be absent from school, you must inform the school and provide a reason for your child’s absence. A small number of absences may be accepted by the principal.

  • Attend a special religious ceremony
  • Is required to attend to a serious and/or urgent family situation (e.g. a funeral)
  • Is too sick to go to school or has an infectious illness.

There are a number of options available to notify the school:

  • Enter an attendance note in Compass
  • Send an email to guyadmin@arm.catholic.edu.au
  • Call the school on 02 67791661

Arriving Late or Leaving School Early

A reminder, due to child safety reasons the front gates of the school are closed as close to 9.00am as office duties allow each morning. If your child arrives after these gates have been closed and need to enter school through the front office they must be accompanied and signed in by a parent/carer as they are then considered late as the rolls will have been marked.

Parents please note that students are not to be collected early from school unless they have an urgent appointment. School finishes at 3:10pm.

Library Days

Skills Questionnaire

Our students were lucky enough to have Jon Welsh and Riley Carroll coach our rugby league team that recently travelled to Inverell to compete. On the back of that, we have designed this form for the school to learn about the outstanding skills and talents of our Parent and Carers.  For the school to then possibly scaffold off these skills and encourage parent/carer engagement in the school. Please click on the link below & tell us more about you!

SPECIAL REPORT: Building Belonging Post Pandemic

Having a sense of belonging involves more than simply knowing other people. It is also focused on gaining acceptance, attention and support from others, as well as having the opportunity to provide the same to other people. When the pandemic interrupted our lives and changed the way we live, this meant that suddenly many of our young people’s main sources of connection with peers and extended family members was removed overnight without warning.

As human beings, we have a basic emotional and biological need for connection. It provides us with feelings of identity, security, support, acceptance and community.Students who have a sense of belonging will experience these feelings which in turn supports their academic, psychological and social development.

When young people come together again after a period of instability, there is a period of adjustment. Whilst the rules of the group may be established, acceptance remains paramount and can therefore mean some behaviours become far from rational, making it difficult for their brain to focus on things, such as learning.

All these factors combined, leave young people open to being vulnerable. It can sometimes tempt them into making choices or becoming involved in situations they might not ordinarily consider. As a result of the pandemic, there are still many young people struggling to connect and regain their sense of belonging.

This Special Report provides guidance to families who find themselves in this situation. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please seek medical or professional help.
