A Look at Learning
Mrs Matilda Hunt
On Wednesday students were a part of Indigenous Literacy Day. A national celebration of the diversity of First Nations Peoples' Stories, Cultures and Languages. Students enjoyed a magical story, led by children, sharing a snippet of life in remote Australia and the richness and diversity of First Nation Peoples. They also learnt Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in two different Aboriginal languages.
Last week Kindergarten were lucky enough to welcome Mrs Robinson and Amelia, a student from Guyra Central School. Amelia has cochlear implants and is building her confidence in communicating with sign language. Mrs Robinson and Amelia shared the signs for the letters of the alphabet, different colours and they even taught Kindergarten a song in Auslan. Thank you for your visit!
In History, Years 3/4 have been learning about different celebrations around the world. In pairs, students selected a cultural celebration to research and present their findings. Some students chose to present their research as a poster, others chose to prepare a travel video or a google slide. Check out their great work!
Year 1/2 have been very busy learning about persuasive techniques and how they can use their ideas to write convincing texts. They have been working on uplevelling their vocabulary, ensuring capital letters and full stops are in the correct place, and making sure paragraphs have lots of interesting ideas with supporting information. Year 1/2 were even challenged to include a rhetorical question! Have a look at some of the brilliant pieces of writing they have crafted. Outstanding 1/2!
Congratulations to the following students who have successfully completed this year's Premier's Reading Challenge. Certificates will be presented later in the year.

Last Thursday, Year 6 travelled to O'Connor Catholic College in Armidale for the next installment in the transition to high school days.
Our students had such an enjoyable day getting to meet new teachers from O'Connor, as well as making new friends from other schools. The students participated in a variety of learning activities including PE games, exploring the Ag Farm, playing drama games and learning about Aboriginal culture with dance and music. They were spoiled with a delicious lunch of pizza and were able to catch up with some of our students from past years.
Year 6 will have one final visit to O'Connor if they are enrolled for Year 7 in Term 4.
Many thanks to the staff at O'Connor for providing St Mary of the Angels with such a positive experience in preparation for High School next year.
