Next Monday 12th September, four students from our Year 2 class will be receiving their Sacrament of First Reconciliation. These students include Vancara Lockyer, Clancy Robinson, Rylan Wilson & Chaise Martin. This sacrament will start at 3:30pm in the Guyra Catholic Church. Students can wear their school uniform, as there won't be a lot of time to get changed after school and to arrive at the Church. Please keep these students in your prayers as they prepare to receive this very important sacrament of healing and forgiveness.
We are very grateful of the assistance of Bishop Michael Kennedy who has helped to arrange a visiting priest to help our students to receive this sacrament. Thank you also to the teachers in Year 1/2 Mrs Theresa Grills and Mrs Angela Hayes for helping prepare our students.
Entries for the CSO Prayer Competition are due on Friday. If your child has an entry ready, please send them into Miss Martin to be sent off for judging.
At St Mary of the Angels, our students have the opportunity to practise and experience their faith through participation in either fortnightly school masses or school liturgies. On Wednesday, our school participated in a school liturgy learning about how much God loves each of us.
During our liturgy, students were able to actively participate by singing familiar children's songs, reading stories from the Bible or reciting prayers. Our liturgies are run by our teachers and aim to engage our students and teach important lessons to help each student to develop their Christian values and ways of living. Our teachers aim to incorporate storytelling and role playing into liturgies to help students to better understand the scripture stories.
Thanks to our teachers for their huge efforts with mass and liturgy planning to continue to grow the faith and spirituality of our precious students.
Our next school liturgy will be held on:
- Wednesday 21st September at 12:30pm
You are all most welcome to join us in the Church at 12:30pm when we hold our liturgies.
On return to school in Term 4, we will be holding a fundraiser for Catholic Missions. During October, all schools in our Diocese will be celebrating 'Socktober'. Our Year 5/6 class have planned some fun activities for students to get involved to help out disadvantaged children from Ethiopia.
To prepare for Socktober, students are encouraged to dust off their crazy socks ready to wear to school and to start thinking of some ideas to make a sock puppet to bring to school.
Stay tuned for more information in the next newsletter.
