Devotion

If you have tuned into any good news outlets recently, you will have heard the name Nedd Brockmann. On Monday this week, Nedd completed the final 100km leg in his incredible 47 day – nearly 4000km – run across Australia in a bid to raise money and awareness for homelessness. His courage, determination, heart and resilience to complete such an incredibly challenging, near impossible task reminded me of the power of vulnerability.

Vulnerability. Giving something a go. Showing up. Trying. Failing. Trying again.

Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it's having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome.

Vulnerability is putting our ‘brave in front’, trying hard things and putting yourself—and your feelings—out there and at risk.

Vulnerability – giving something a go - means you are facing the possibility that you may fail, and fail in front of people.

Vulnerability – failing - is not weakness; it is our greatest measure of courage.

Nedd, the man with a mullet and a mission, achieved the unachievable and raised 1.5+ million dollars for charity in the process because he wasn’t afraid to fail. Because he was vulnerable. Because he had the courage to try.

As we head into Term 4, and for some families in our community, their final term at St Paul, my prayer is that you can be brave, be vulnerable and take hold of every opportunity presented to you. Try, fail and try again! You can do anything you put your mind to. You can do everything through God. You can do anything, as long as you have the courage to try.

“I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” - Philippians 4:13
