Holy Saviour School Update

Dear Families,

What a difference a week makes. This time last week, we were in the middle of a huge deluge of rain, while this week my children have been spending the afternoon swimming in the pool. Unfortunately, the threat of flood is not over for many in our state, we pray for all those in flood affected areas at the present time.

School Review Dialogue

As you may be aware, we are in the midst of our school review this term. Next Thursday 27th October, Gavin, our reviewer, would like to meet with a group of parents for about 30 minutes at 9am. If you are available for 30 minutes on Thursday morning, we'd be looking to put together a group of about 5-6 parents. If you could let me know asap if you are available via email sevans@hsvs.catholic.edu.au that would be great. If I don’t get enough parents, expect a tap on the shoulder on Monday morning!

Holy Saviour School Staffing

Hopefully you read the letter that went home to all families earlier this week to inform you that Mrs Jenny Willmott will be finishing her time at Holy Saviour School at the end of Term 4. Jenny has accepted a position as Deputy Principal at St John Vianney’s Primary School in Mulgrave and we congratulate her on this wonderful appointment and opportunity. We acknowledge how fortunate the staff, students and families at St John’s are at this time and also how fortunate we are to have had Jenny at Holy Saviour for the past eleven years. We wish her well in her new position at St John Vianney’s Primary School, there will be an opportunity for everyone to farewell Jenny at our end of year celebrations in December.

School Advisory Council Vacancies

The School Advisory Council (SAC) provides a forum for discussion and discernment, where the parent/guardian voice and perspective are available to inform and support the decisions made by the Principal and Parish Priest for the good of School and Parish where the wellbeing and outcomes for students is paramount. The role is to give consideration to, and advice on, important School matters in order to support the Principal in the context of the MACS governance arrangements.

We are seeking new SAC Members for the 2023-2025 period, from a mixture of year levels and professional backgrounds. More information regarding the SAC can be found in its Terms of Reference. If you have an interest in being on the SAC, any of the existing members would be happy to be contacted and discuss the commitment involved. If you would like to be involved in the SAC, please complete your details in the attached form and we will be in touch shortly.

Socktober - Thursday 27th October

Next Thursday, 27th October, we will take part in a Socktober Day as we ‘sock it to poverty’ and 'kick goals for kids around the world'.  We are making soccer balls out of old socks, t-shirts and plastic bags, just like millions of children all over the world. The students are also welcome to wear ‘crazy’ socks to school on that day (even if it’s just wearing a pair of odd socks!).

Please send along any old socks/t-shirts and plastic bags for us to make the balls.

We ask all families to support our efforts to take action and change lives for the better in Ethiopia. This year, our school has registered on the on-line portal and we invite all parents to support the work of Missions Australia by donating by going to the link below:

Victorian State Election - Voting Centre - Saturday 26th November

Holy Saviour has been selected as a voting centre for the upcoming State Election on Saturday 26th November. The School Advisory Council will be running a BBQ throughout the day and we will be seeking volunteers to assist on the day. Please look out for the volunteer request form in the coming weeks.

Save the Date - Bunnings BBQ - Saturday 3rd December

We have been fortunate enough to be granted a second fundraising opportunity at Vermont South Bunnings on Saturday 3rd December. As well as being an iconic Aussie tradition, the sausage sizzle will enable the school to raise important funds, every cent of which goes to purchasing assets that are used by our students each day in their schooling. To make this day a success we are calling on our parent community to volunteer their time for 2-hour shifts. If you can spare some time to help us raise funds for our students, please look out for the volunteer request form in the coming weeks.

Term 4 Principal Cuppa & Chat

This term’s Principal Cuppa & Chat will take place on Friday 4th November at 9am. This is an informal gathering when parents can come in to discuss various school issues over a cuppa. Lots of good feedback and discussion is generated. We hope to see you there.

Mini-Fest Posters

We have Mini-Fest posters in the school office if anyone would like to put some up in their work places, sports clubs, kinders or anywhere else in our local community. Please contact the office if you are able to assist with this.

Billboards, Posters, Flyers!

We have some new posters & flyers being printed at the moment, and we’d love some more people to help distribute these and/or have them displayed in a prominent position! If you can help, please email office@hsvs.catholic.edu.au and we can get some to you.

Parents wanted to help promote our beautiful school.

The School Advisory Council is organising a short promotional video and we would greatly appreciate your assistance. All you need to do is help sell our school by answering a few questions or even just talk about your experiences. Past and present students and parents are needed. Hopefully we will have some celebrities helping us out too. Short messages will be edited and posted on Instagram and Facebook. Please email Belinda Saville if you are able to help us out,  binndy20@gmail.com.
