Principal's News

Dear Parents and Carers,

As parents and teachers we sometimes forget that children are always watching us, and it is our actions that teach our children more than our words can. Plenty of times we have heard a frustrated parent wish that their child would “act their age” or “grow up” but how often do we give these same kids the opportunity to practise this?

If we want to coach kindness - we have to demonstrate it. It’s not good enough to talk about it. When we want to encourage generosity it won’t work without the example being set by the adults around our kids.

Where we demonstrate that we trust our kids to handle a situation without us holding their hand we are teaching them to be independent, responsible and brave. Where we are clearly worried that they might make a mistake or allow our own anxiety to get the better of us we are teaching them, accidentally, that we don’t think they are capable of dealing with the day to day things in life.- This is probably the opposite of what we want for our kids?

Children WILL make mistakes. So this is the art of parenting; working out how much risk is appropriate at what stage of development. How much mess can we cope with? What if the bed is not made perfectly but the child’s effort is O.K. ? Can I live with that? What is the bigger picture?

Mistakes are fine - it’s how we all learn. Especially if we have to deal with the consequences of our mistakes.

GRANDPARENTS DAY This  Friday, October 14th, we are offering Grandparents the opportunity to visit their Grandchildren at school. Because of Covid-19 we have not been able to run “Grandparents Day'' for the past couple of years, and we are very aware that some Grandparents may not feel confident about entering such a busy environment because of their own health concerns. To this end I am very happy to report that we have not had a Covid-19 report since August 30.

Grandparents should visit our school from about 1:15pm - 2:15pm. Senior students will welcome all Grandparents (& any close substitutes) at the Hart Street entrance and escort them to the ELDEST grandchild’s classroom. The grandchildren will then take our guests around to visit the other grandchildren  where they can inspect the children’s work before touring the school to admire the beautiful artwork on display.

Grandparents should bring something yummy for lunch to be enjoyed with their grandchildren, picnic style in our school grounds. Children are still able to place a lunch order on this day. Our school choir will be performing in the courtyard from about 1:45pm.

We hope lots of our cherished Grandmas and Grandpas can come along.

SCHOOL CLOSURE Parents should please note that we will be closed on Monday, October 31 for Reporting. This is the day before the Melbourne Cup Public holiday and so will mean a 4 day weekend.

EXCURSIONS Our Grade 3 children are off to Narana Aborigianl Cultural Centre tomorrow.  We trust they will enjoy their experience.

PERSONAL LEAVE I will be absent for a week of Long Service Leave as I am heading to Queensland to my niece’s wedding. Mrs Daffy will be in charge in my absence.
