Dunstan Reserve Mural

Andrew Lang

Last year I asked students to draw some images that would be used in a larger work to be painted onto a wall outside the Dunstan Reserve Community Childcare Centre. The project is a collaboration between Moreland Community Childcare Centers, The Brunswick North West Community Garden, Brunswick North West Primary School. The themes we worked with were family, the environment and indigenous perspectives. After much negotiation, planning, a successful grant application process, and plenty of hard work the mural finally lives!

On the holidays I was joined by such legends as Quinn, Jamie (OSHC), Jenny (Foundation), Jack the Music Teacher, Libby, Tait and Grace, Imogen, Anika and Ryan. Day one it was painted white. Day two it was painted white again (it had been tagged) then colour was added. Day three we added the outlines and finished the colour. It looks great!

Please head down to Dunstan Reserve and check it out. There is a loose 'launch' at the Brunswick West Community Garden Spring Sale next Sunday morning with a few councillors attending and hopefully a photo or two for sharing.

Thanks to all the volunteers mentioned earlier that made this dream a reality. Extra special thanks to Imogen Jubb for keeping the momentum going, getting the money and paints organised, and generally running the show. Love your work.
