Vale Sam Allen

SVC 1982-87

The September 2022 edition of OVAtions carried a story on Sam Allen – his battle with cancer, his involvements and the esteem with which he was held.  Sadly, Sam passed away on September 25.  In the September 27, The Mercury produced an article containing the following collated  glowing tributes:

Thousands of people took to social media after Tasmania Police posted of his death.

“A genuine down to earth guy taken way too soon.”

“A cracking bloke, a gentleman and a hard worker.  Always willing to help out his mates on the front line.”

“Such a beautiful human that we were blessed to know.”

Police Association of Tasmania President Colin Riley said police colleagues were devastated by Constable Allen’s death.

There has been a huge outpouring of emotion from police who are facing the grim reality of life without him”, he said.

“Sam was highly respected and much loved.”

He was so positive during his treatment which was a rollercoaster ride for both he and his family.   I’m glad Sam was home with his family and relieved that his pain and suffering is over.

The Wellington Fire Brigade where he was a volunteer for 25 years described him as a great friend who always remained optimistic and never complained.

Mate you fought the toughest battle given to man for close to a decade,” it said.

“I know this is said a lot but honestly the only complaint I ever heard from you was related to desk duty!”

Thank you for being you, for teaching us all that kindness and positivity does make a difference. Your fight may be over, but your memory will remain strong, we all carry those memories with us and will reflect on them often, taking comfort in the knowledge that we had your friendship for 25 years.”

Vale Sam Allen – Rest in Peace.
