Mr Zac Piesse (SVC 2008-11)
All is in readiness for the Old Virgilians Association Annual Dinner on October 14. We finally get to induct Martin Scurrah, Greg McNamara (posthumously), Leighton Kearney and Jack Riewoldt onto the Heritage Roll.
The function also provides the Association with opportunity to acknowledge the enormous contribution made by Mark Waddington during his years at the College between 2012-22.
I am personally excited to attend our first Annual Dinner in a number of years, and have Virgilians from across the years come together for a meal, and to celebrate our deserving Heritage Roll inductees. Please don’t hesitate to come say hello and introduce yourself to me on the night!
As mentioned in the recent OVAtions, the Association is thrilled that Doug Lowe AM (SVC 1950-59) has accepted the offer to propose the ‘Toast to the College’ at the gathering.
Please note two further important points relative to this function:
The committee has decided to cancel the projected 2022 Melbourne Reunion. Work will be focused on broadening the database over the coming months of those Old Virgilians living in Melbourne in order to garner more attendees than might normally be the case.
We will reach out to Melbourne Old Virgilians whose emails we have and provide a list of names of others living in and around Melbourne. The aim is to make contact with those who may not be in our database. If there was a member of the Association that would be willing to act as a liaison for the Melbourne Virgilians, feel free to send me an email. If you wish to update you details, please visit the OVA website.
The annual Memorial Mass & Luncheon will go ahead. In past years it has been combined with the Year 10 Graduation which will no longer occur as many of the Year 10 students will be continuing at the College with the reintroduction of Year 11 next year. The likely date will be Tuesday December 6 with the Mass in the Chapel of St Virgil at Barrack Street and the luncheon at the Marquis Hotel. The final arrangements will be conveyed in the next OVAtions.
There are still a handful of vacancies for the OVA Golf Day on Friday November 11. The contact person for this event is Michael Harvey, the OVA Treasurer. Michael can be contacted 0417 393 304, email rooboy@bigpond.net.au or complete an entry form at: https://www.oldvirgilians.org.au/event/ova-golf-day.
The projected open day for OVs to view the major developments on Austins Ferry Campus will be held in February 2023 when greater access to buildings will be possible. The buildings are progressing nicely and are looking fantastic. I can’t wait to get back to Austins Ferry to be able to view the developments on the campus. Details regarding this event will be posted in the December edition of the OVAtions newsletter.
