SCHOOL CAPTAINS 2023

We are delighted to announce our School Captains for 2023.

Maddie

Hi, my name is Maddie and I was recently selected for the 2023 school captain role along with three others.

All of the sixteen candidates have participated in a collaborative task in the past two weeks. We got split into groups of four. Two of the four people spoke at assembly and the other two wrote in the iNewsletter.

We all then had an interview with the 2022 school captains, Miss Britnell, Mr Steven and Miss Kebbell.

It was an amazing experience and I just wanted to say that the other sixteen candidates did an amazing job.

I'm really excited to have the opportunity to help make school a better place and to share with the school some of my character strengths like, Honesty, humour, creativity and kindness.

Stuee

Hello my name is Stuee. I have recently been chosen along with four others to be the BHPS school captain in 2023. I hope that I can add and benefit the community with my ideas and aspirations.

All the school captain candidates recently completed a character strength survey which produced very valuable information and assets for the future. My main character strengths are humanity and love of learning. My ideas are that if used correctly these character traits can be used to make new connections and benefit the PERMA models, school values, and community spirit.

Skye

Hi, I’m Skye and I am incredibly grateful to be accepted as your 2023 school captain along with Elliot, Stuee and Maddie. We went through a process along with some remarkable students. We all had different character strengths which made us unique and special in different ways. I am super exited to be able to take on this role as school captain and work as a team with the other school captains, teachers and other students.

The process had a time span of 3 weeks from (wk 5 to wk 8). First we would nominated ourselves for the school captain position. This then led to a peer vote for who the grade 5’s thought would make a good school captain, which is how we got down to our top 16. Then we got put into groups and given one of our PERMA starfish traits. My group had Relationship. In our group of 4, 2 who wrote a piece in the iNewsletter and the other 2 members spoke at assembly. Then the interview process began where a panel (current school captains and school leaders) asked you questions to get to know the person that you are.  My 5 main character strengths are Love, Love of Learning, Gratitude, Fairness and Perseverance.

I am super exited to be able to be 1 of 2023’s school captains.

Elliott

Hi there I’m Elliott,

I will be one of four School Captains in 2023.

I am looking forward to bringing new ideas to the school and creating further opportunities for the children at Barwon Heads Primary School.

My 5 main character strengths include Leadership, Courage, Love of learning, Humour and Persistence. I believe that I use these 5-character strengths and they will be vital to helping the school dig deeper into discovering new and better ways of making this school a better place. Some examples include using humour during speeches to engage the audience at assembly. There are so many important messages at assembly that it would be a shame if you were staring at the gym floor bored and didn’t catch a key phrase or message.

Another is my love of learning e.g., when lessons are challenging, finding the ability to engage and achieve leads to a great sense of satisfaction. This is a character strength I would like to model to others as a leader in 2023.

I am so excited to make a difference as a 2023 school captain.

MANGO FUNDRAISING UPDATE

Thank you to our school community for supporting our mango fundraising and big thanks to the amazing parent co-ordinator, Nic Carter. Over $3000 worth of literacy resources will be purchased for classrooms as a result of this project.

We are very much looking forward to our many trays of mangos arriving during the week of the 28th November. More information to come about pick up days / times.

On Friday we asked all students to nominate their favourite chapter books and we had some amazing responses from students across all year levels.

We can’t wait to order these wonderful books and get students reading.

See below for some of the student's favourites.

Head Lice at School

We have been informed of a case of head lice in one of the Grade 3 classes this past week. This is a friendly reminder to please keep an eye on your child. If you notice any signs of head lice being present, please treat your child accordingly. Any children with head lice are to be excluded from school until the day after treatment has commenced, as per the Victorian Health and Well-being Regulations.

Lucky Bag Donations

I am very excited to announce that Lucky Bags will be back again at this year’s school fair. This year the Grade 3’s and I will be making and selling these lucky bags.

We are now seeking donations for the fillings of our lucky bags. Items such as stationary (pens, pencils, rubbers etc.), small toys (figurines, key rings, toy cars etc.) are all welcome, as well as wrapped lollies.

These can be brought into school from next week, and a student representative will come around to each class every day or two to collect these fillings.

Thank you for your support.
