Blackout Poetry Incursions Year 7 & 8

We had Ilona from the Torquay Library come visit us over 2 days to facilitate a blackout poetry workshop for our Year 7 and 8 students.  It really showed the students that creating poetry doesn’t have to be a daunting task and when the words are not your own to start with it can take the pressure off.  We had some great poems created and even some beautiful artistic blackout poetry.

Book of The Month

The Crossing by Ernie Rijs, a long standing secondary school  educator living in Victoria.

Tim is nearing the end of his final year of secondary school and all he wants is for it to finish. Against his better judgment he agrees to the Principal’s request for him to “buddy up” with Gabriel, a refugee from South Sudan. Two months and it’ll be done, he tells himself. But when both Tim and Gabriel’s father each make one simple, but momentous decision, they are propelled in directions they never imagined they’d go. Murph doesn't get it, Cat is shocked and angry, and Gabriel is in a coma. Tim must re-evaluate his relationship with his mother and estranged father and ultimately decide if he’s got everything all wrong, and if there’s any coming back.

PLEASE HAVE ALL BOOKS RETURNED BY FRIDAY 28TH OCTOBER FOR OUR ANNUAL STOCKTAKE, BORROWING WILL RECOMMENCE AFTER THIS DATE.
