100 Days of School

The excitement is building as the children are becoming aware that this special milestone is drawing near. On Monday 26 July, the Preps will be celebrating their 100 Days of School. The children will take part in many fun activities involving the number 100 throughout the day. To help get into the spirit of the day, the children have the opportunity to dress up in one of the following ways:

  1. As a 100 year old person
  2. Wearing a T-shirt decorated with 100 things
  3. Come dressed as what they would like to be when they grow up

Inquiry

Our Inquiry topic for this term is Keeping Ourselves Safe. In this unit of work the children will learn about road and fire safety. They will explore ways they can keep themselves safe at home, around water and pets. They will also consolidate their knowledge about the people in our community who help us and keep us safe. A major  focus will be that each individual is responsible for his/her own safety too, and that following rules is an important part of keeping oneself and others safe.

Craft Power Incursion

On Monday 23 August, Anatoli from Craft Power will visit our school, to run a woodworking session with the children. This hands on workshop, will give students the opportunity to use tools and equipment they do not usually work with, such as hammers, nails, sandpaper and pliers. The children will make a car during this session and it will be a great way to reinforce some of the work that has been covered in this term’s unit, Keeping Ourselves Safe.

Show and Tell - Treasure Bag

Commencing in Week 2, we will stop Show and Tell in its current format and begin using a ‘Treasure Bag’. The Treasure Bag will provide the opportunity for each child to share 3 special items with the class. The children will have a longer time to talk in front of their peers and will be encouraged to discuss their items in detail. The Treasure Bag will be sent home with one child per day, chosen randomly. When it is your child’s turn, it would be greatly appreciated if you could help them choose three items that are special to them, put them in the Treasure Bag and bring it to school the following day. Some ideas could be: a family photo, a favourite toy, a football scarf for a favourite team or something that your child considers to be a treasure – a gem stone, something from when they were a baby, a special coin etc. We would prefer that no more than one item is a toy.

It would be beneficial if you could help your child think about some interesting things to say about each item - it does not have to be a rehearsed speech.

Please bear in mind that whatever is sent to school in the Treasure Bag will be returned home in your child’s school bag, as the Treasure Bag needs to be passed onto the next child. We are looking forward to seeing what everyone brings!

Student Learning Diaries (SLDs)

Student Learning Diaries containing work from Term 2, will go home on Friday 30 July. Inside the SLD, you will find a ‘2 Stars and a Wish’ sheet. It would be greatly appreciated if you could fill this in and return it with the SLD to your child’s teacher, by Friday 6 August.
