Principal's Report

ACPS STEM DAY NEXT WEDNESDAY

National Science Week is Australia’s annual celebration of science and technology, and will be running between 14-22 August this year.

At ACPS we are planning a fun S.T.E.M. Day next Wednesday, as a whole school event to join in the celebration.

Students will attend their morning roll call meeting and then be able to watch lots of interesting experiments and activities via video. The children can choose one or more S.T.E.M. activities to participate in throughout the day.

As a guide, you may like to have a few of the following items on the shopping list over the weekend, to join in on the day:

Washing detergent, straws, balloons, food dye, vinegar, baking soda, milk, vegetable oil, paper, shaving cream, lemon, orange, bi-carb soda.

We welcome photos and videos of your experiments at home. If your family chooses to wait until the weekend, we would still love to see and hear about them the following week.

WE WANT OUR PARENTS/CAREGIVERS/GUARDIANS TO TELL US WHAT YOU THINK!

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of randomly selected parents/caregivers/guardians (previously known as the Parent Opinion Survey). It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, student engagement and experiences of remote and flexible learning. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Approximately 30 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is now open and will close on Friday 3 September.

For families who have been randomly selected, the survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. If you have been selected you will have received an email.

Our Powerful Owl needs your help.

Our Powerful Owl needs your help. Last year, artists from Apparition Media painted a mural of a Powerful Owl on the School office wall, because ACPS students voted to support this threatened bird. Sadly, people are finding some sick and dead owls in Australia. Birdlife is raising money to help pay for testing to find out why the owls are getting sick. If you would like to help protect the owls, you can sign a petition or donate to the Birdlife campaign. To find out more visit: https://www.actforbirds.org/ratpoison#donate
