Who We Are

YEAR FOUR - TERM 3, 2021

 Transdisciplinary theme: Who We Are

 CENTRAL IDEA

The body is made up of different systems that need to be maintained

As an International Baccalaureate world school, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

The students investigate the human body and explore the different systems that work together to build the functioning human body. Each system in the human body has a special purpose. The students explore the structure and function of six different body systems (skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, circulatory and nervous) to understand their purpose. The students also investigate the connections between different systems to expand their knowledge and understanding of the human body.

Lines of Inquiry

  • The body systems and their components
  • The way they work together
  • The way we keep ourselves healthy

Action

Action in the PYP is initiated independently by the student as a result of the learning process. Action presents itself in many different ways. If your child takes action in any way at home, for example reading books, collecting photos and/or researching independently, please encourage them to share their action with the class.

Summative Task

Students will independently research a body system of their choice and create outputs to demonstrate their knowledge.  They will then form groups to address how the different systems respond or react to certain events affecting the body (e.g. high intensity exercise, disease). They will present their findings in some format at the end of the term. The format will depend on whether we are learning remotely or have students onsite and what restrictions may be placed on conducting an exhibition.
