RUOK?

This week we were able to celebrate RUOK day for 2021 – and while it looked a bit different to normal, we had more wellbeing activities than you could imagine!  From chalk drawing and cupcake making to RUOK themed songs and yellow dress competitions, this year the team at NBC we wanted to make RUOK day very special.  It is with good reason that we would do these things, this year has been a strange and challenging year.

If you don’t know much about RUOK Day, this is a day where we focus on asking the people in our lives how they are going, how they are really going.  This is a day where we want to inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the  people around them and start a conversation with those in their world who may be struggling with life.  This doesn’t mean being a psychologist and knowing all the answers if someone isn’t going so well, simply reach out - just be a good friend and a great listener.

Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

1. Ask R U OK?

2. Listen

3. Encourage action

4. Check in

It is important that we ask this question on RUOK Day, it is more important that we keep asking the question every day – and keep the conversation going, whether the person is going well or if they are struggling at the time.
