VCE

Scholarships workshop with Deakin University

On Friday 10/09 Deakin University ran a workshop for the VCE Year 11 and 12 students on scholarship opportunities. A familiar face in our 2020 college dux Liam Jones made an appearance as one of the presenters of the workshop and a recipient of a Deakin Scholarship.

Students were exposed to a number of specific scholarship opportunities including those based on excellence (including academic, sporting, leadership and community services), on personal hardships and those for asylum seekers and refugees. They were also given some strategies on how they could apply for scholarships through both institutions and through VTAC.

Year 11 students were encouraged to start thinking about scholarship applications now by preparing notes with any key information from 2020 and 2021 that could support their application. The best tip of the session was for students to describe in their application how the scholarship would support them with the course they wish to undertake, their motivations for applying, not just their achievements.

Good luck to all year 12’s with your scholarship applications!

VCAL

Remote learning is hard on all of us as we face the challenge of motivating ourselves and creating separation between our work requirements and home life.

For VCAL students this brings about extra challenges as our hands-on projects move online. On Tuesday the VCAL Enterprise Enviro Warrior Group were lucky enough to collect packages from Goldsworthy reception. In these packages students received compostable pots, seeds, a seedling, and soil. The students had been looking at building and developing existing veggie gardens at school. Now students are able to begin this process at home buy growing their own seeds and looking after a seedling.

Once face to face schooling returns, the students will get to plant their seedlings into the garden beds and hopefully reap the rewards of their hard work.

YEAR 10

Skyline Interviews

Recently, several of our Year 10 students have been going through the application process to receive entry into the Skyline Program. Students involved composed a personal essay to explain why they should be considered for the program, submitted an application, had a practice interview with the principals and staff of NBC Goldsworthy, and then were interviewed over Zoom and also submitted a creative piece themed around the idea of “Who Am I?”.

Eh Doe and Elis Tun have offered their creative pieces to be viewed by the community - well done girls!

If successful, students will participate in Masterclasses and camps over the holidays designed to develop their personal skills and help them discover their pathway to higher education, will receive wrap-around support from Skyline, and will also be reimbursed for the majority of their senior school expenses. All students performed really admirably, particularly with having to prepare for this as we shifted in and out of lockdowns.

The Year 10 team congratulates them on making it this far and wishes them the best of luck as Skyline makes their decisions!
