Naplan 2021

This week all schools across Victoria received their Naplan data. Media reports have indicated Victoria overall achieved very good results.  (the school has  currently only  received state and school data). It must be remember though Naplan is only a snapshot of the students ability on one day.  St Bede's uses a variety of assessment tools such as PAT and pre and post assessment tasks to help assess  student competency.

NAPLAN also provides  schools is  with additional information that allows us to look at trends which in turn helps us set directions as part of our annual action plan.

As a school I am pleased to inform our community that once again our Students in Yr. 3 and Yr. 5 achieved above the state average in all 5 assessed areas. (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy). Below is an example in the area of writing.  For those who have not seen this type of data before what it  is telling us is

  • St Bedes  Average range is significant higher than the states ( coloured area)
  • St Bedes Median is significantly higher than the states  ( the line)

( St Bedes is orange and state  average in green)

Whilst St Bedes is above state averages, what is even more pleasing is that St Bede’s achieved a higher percentage of students achieving “high growth” in the areas of Reading Writing and Spelling compared to the rest of the state.

(the state is in the the blue dot 25%, St Bede's  green 40%)

Congratulations to our community teachers, parents and students for the combined efforts over two very challenging years.   I will provide more data for you in the coming newsletters

Parents in Yr. 3 and 5 will be receiving your child’s results in the coming days. Please check your mail as all NAPLAN were posted today.
