Boarding News

It was a pleasure to have a conversation with a young boarder who claimed that "this weekend was the best ever", that was even after volunteering for dishes duty. It was certainly a busy weekend filled with lots of activity.

Saturday saw the usual town trip, followed by make your own pizza, and then a trip to the cinemas to watch the latest movie "Jungle Cruise".

Sunday's warmer weather saw the pool being used, and then the creation of a slip in slide in the Quad.

Principal, Roger Herbert and Director of Middle School Curriculum, Sue Herbert joined us for the Sunday Roast Dinner. It was a jovial affair as Mr Herbert's mighty Demons football team had won their first semi final. I can only guess the reaction if Melbourne win the Grand Final. After dinner, the whole group viewed the fireworks display in the Todd River and finally journeyed to the oval to view the town concert fireworks.

I am fortunate to teach some of our boarders Science. Their thirst for knowledge and inquisitive nature makes these lessons fun. At present we are learning all about electricity and the experiments we are conducting is making their hair stand on end, so to speak. This week has seen the start of the College's COVID vaccination program. If as a boarding parent/guardian you have any concerns or questions about the program, please reach out and contact the Medical Centre 8950 4567 or Jen our Boarding Assistant 8950 4586. With the recent Delta strain infecting the younger generation I strongly encourage all boarders to be vaccinated. As well as educating our future leaders, we must also protect them. It is the boarding house goal to be 100% vaccinated.

In the next few weeks Jen and I will be coordinating the return home for the end of term holidays. This is often a long process due to the ABSTUDY requirements and dates for approval. Please contact Jen as soon as possible on 8950 4586 if your plans for the holidays have changed.

Boarding recruitment for 2022 has also begun. It is anticipated that the Boarding House will be full in 2022 and if you have any relations or siblings that want to enrol at St Philip's College please contact our Boarding Recruitment Officer, Paul Bailey on (08) 8950 4577.

A special thanks to all our Boarding staff. It was their devotion to the children that made one young person think "that this was the best weekend ever".

Boarding should never be boring.

Yours in Boarding,

Tammy Hawkins

Acting Director of Boarding
