Round Square Week was held in Week 4 and was the last Round Square event to be hosted by the Round Square Committee of 2020/2021 before handing over our leadership positions to the new upcoming leaders currently in Year 11. The week was jam packed with events and activities that supported and promoted the IDEALS of Round Square.

Each day of the week stood for a different pillar of Round Square, the pillars being: International Understanding, Democracy, Environment, Adventure, Leadership and Service.

Kicking off the start of the week, Monday stood for the pillar of Service and included a Round Square Kahoot for each of the Houses to participate in. The winners bagged themselves a Golden Ticket which entitled them to a free meal on Friday! The lucky winners of the Round Square Kahoot were Natalia Rosario, Amelia Napier, Kaitlin McGrath, Jamie Chapman, Molly Murphy and Violet Allen. Also, at Monday recess a Bake Sale fundraiser was held with live music. All the food was home-made and it completely sold out! Finally on Monday in Period 5 the Dance-A-Thon was held in the stadium hosted for Years 7 and 8, organised and run by Round Square Committee member and Dance Captain Andy.

Tuesday stood for the pillar of Adventure and provided an opportunity for a whole school crazy sock day.

It was fantastic to see so many people participating and showcasing a wonderful array of wacky colours and designs of socks! Tuesday also incorporated the Adventure Teams Race at recess organised by Round Square Committee member and Adventure Captain Patsy. This was a house versus house competition with each house nominating a team to participate. The race included adventure themed obstacles that the teams were required to overcome. These obstacles included riding a bike around the school, climbing to the top of the rock wall, telling a funny joke, walking along the slackline blindfolded, crawling under a cargo net with a water drum and eating a donut off a string with no hands!

The winning team of the Adventure Teams Race was the Flynn team (yay) - Well done Flynn! The winning members being Andre Kim, Aimee Gilbert, Jess Brand, Charlotte Dyker, Iris Chenhall and Alexis Richards. As the winners, each team member was a recipient of a coveted Golden Ticket entitling them a free meal on Friday.

Wednesday stood for the pillars of Democracy and Leadership held in conjunction with the NAIDOC assembly and also a debate at lunch organised and run by Round Square Committee member and Flynn House Captain, Andre. There was also live music at the event – special thanks to the Music Captain, Hugo and the Music department.

Finally, after school on Wednesday, the event I was personally most excited about was The Challenger Hunt! The Challenger Hunt is a concept I devised this year in my capacity as the Round Square Captain. The event was open to all grades, and it required teams to overcome and solve numerous challenges and riddles that were tests of both the mind and the body. It was so wonderful to see so many people come along, and I was personally very chuffed to hear the positive feedback from everyone. The winning team of The Challenger Hunt were Aidan Kennedy, Liam Alloway and Lennie Sherriff dubbed ‘The Champions’.

Thursday stood for the pillar of Environment and the day started off with Upper Todd Landcare in the morning at 7:00am. It was a great turn out and we were lucky enough to have Sue Morrish and Sunil Dhanji from the local landcare organisation to show us the correct way to ‘buffel bust’. Also at Thursday lunch time was a Waste Drive, hosted by the Waste Warriors.

Finally, Friday stood for the pillar of International Understanding and was coordinated with Rolland House’s free dress day. Friday was also International Food Day when at lunch food from all around the world was sold by each house and the Round Square Committee. It was a truly wonderful day and it was so amazing to see so many people embrace the event and the spirit of Round Square! (And also sample some traditional international cuisine).

I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved in the preparation of Round Square Week and to everyone who helped out throughout the week! This includes the Round Square Committee, the PE and Music departments, teachers and staff and all of our Year 12 leaders who helped out.

A special mention to Mrs Crogan who worked so hard to make sure the week was a total success!

As this was the last Round Square event hosted by the Round Square Committee of 2020/2021, I would like to take this opportunity to say that I am extremely proud of every single member for all their hard work and effort this year and acknowledge what has been achieved. The years 2020 and 2021 was most definitely not a normal year to have coordinated and conducted so many events. I consider myself very fortunate to have had such a wonderful Round Square Committee in my time as Round Square Captain and I believe together we have elevated Round Square within the school to a whole new level! I sincerely hope that the traditions and ideas we have created such as The Challenger Hunt can become a traditional part of Round Square Week and the Round Square identity within the school as a whole!
