Bunge’s missing snout in Port Campbell

“Where is it?” Bunge yelled to herself. Bunge is a Weedy Sea Dragon who lives on the coastal, cold waters in Victoria. Bunge was desperately looking for her long, straw-like snout. She started to panic because her snout was her mouth. Her tummy was shrinking, and her belly was drooping. She had found her yummy tiny shrimps and her scrumptious sea lice and she couldn’t put them in her mouth!

In desperation she went to find her cousins the Seahorses to help her find her precious snout because her seaweed body was getting weaker and weaker. “Quick, quick!” yelled Bunge with crashing, foaming waves hitting her and the Seahorses towards the 12 Apostles in Port Campbell. They saw in the distance a straw-like object floating on top of the cold, wintery ocean waters. Bunge used all her suction and muscles around her face to force the snout back into its home, her beautiful and delicate face.

She used her tails and fins to touch her snout and within seconds her tummy was lined with sea lice, shrimps and red algae. Yum, yum, yum she thought. Bunge was the happiest Weedy Sea Dragon because they are Victoria’s official marine faunal emblem since in 2002 and the emblem would look pretty silly without Bunge’s snout!

Grade 6 were lucky to have Dr Katie Allen come and visit on Tuesday via WebEx from Canberra. She spent an hour with us answering questions and talking about her life in parliament as an MP and helping us understand how government works and what our local federal Member does for us. Questions from Grade 6 asked about vaccination, climate change and life as a woman in parliament.

Solar System – By Emily C 5JW

8 planets dancing around the sun,

Life exists, on the little blue one.

Stars and galaxies scattered upon the sky.

Sun’s blazing, hot and dry.

Mercury’s hot, at 430 degrees.

Venus is toxic, with a hazardous breeze.

Earth holds life, fresh and green.

Mars is red, with a frozen sea.

Jupiter is large, the biggest of them all.

Saturn has rings which aren’t so small.

Uranus is sideways, tilted in the sky.

Neptune is freezing, at -200 degrees, Oh my!

Every planet is unique in colour, tilt and size.

Maybe life is up there somewhere in the skies.

Give up, what kind of question is that?

We don’t give up, we only believe.

No arms? No legs? Doesn’t matter.

As long as we can still do what we want.

When we want to. Were all free, do what you want.

What we want is that you notice me as a real person.

No matter what you believe in and what you look like.

If you ask me, we’re the superhumans.

Not the Paralympians.

We do stuff without parts of our body.

Something only a minimum amount of people can do.

We don’t need easy, just as long as it’s possible.

Setting goals is the first step into turning invisible to the visible.

Because you never know what could be next,

Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

Space Writing: Josh L 5JW

When you blast off, how do you feel? When you step out to the endless void of space, how do you feel? When you accomplish something no one has ever done before… how do you feel? Because you’ve done just that and the world was behind you. Take a breath, stop and look. Look at what you’ve done, look at what you could do. Look up at the stars, not down at your feet. You can do whatever you want to do, your only limit is your imagination. You need to stop holding back and starting doing. You can achieve something extraordinary without you even knowing it. So much universe, so little time. Time is ticking so use it wisely. You can do it. Don’t tell me the sky’s the limit hen there’s footprints on the Moon!

Visual Arts at Home

I am seeing some amazing and creative artworks being created at home. Grades 3 and 4 have learnt about Surrealism and made some whacky dreamlike collages. Grades 5 and 6 have created beautifully detailed mindful robot drawings and have also learnt about implied line to create artworks using positive and negative space. Well done everyone!

Don’t forget to have a look at the art task on your allocated day. Being creative is very important at the moment…and it’s also a lot of fun!
