Term 3 Week 6

Over the last three weeks, students in Years 7, 8 and 9 have been asked to complete a “Service Diary'' as part of their Religious Education work. In this diary they have been recording their good deeds and identifying whether it is a Corporal or Spiritual Act of Mercy, core teachings of the Catholic Church.

Corporal Works of Mercy

Spiritual Works of Mercy

The Corporal Works of Mercy are these kind acts by which we help our neighbours with their material and physical needs.

  • feed the hungry
  • welcome the stranger
  • clothe the naked
  • visit the imprisoned
  • care for the sick
  • give alms to the poor

The Spiritual Works of Mercy are acts of compassion, as listed below, by which we help our neighbours with their emotional and spiritual needs:

  • instruct
  • advise
  • console
  • comfort
  • forgive
  • bear wrongs patiently

This is an ongoing project, so please encourage your son or daughter to add to their diary regularly.
