HSIE

Geography

Year 8 students are exploring how connections such as travel, transport, ICT and trade link people to many places across a range of scales. Recently they completed an activity where they were Instagram travel influencers creating a post about their adventures.

Here are some examples of student work:

Year 9 have started a unit called Sustainable Biomes whereby they have been examining the relationship between the world’s climatic zones and their ability to support life on earth. Recently they have been focusing on geographical skills such as climatic graphs, interpreting topographic maps, constructing cross sections and calculating gradients.

Environmental Change and Management is the topic being studied by Year 10 this term. They have been developing an understanding of how environments function and the impacts of human-induced change which challenges sustainability. Recently they have been consolidating the geographical skills studied over the past three years.

Commerce

Year 9 Commerce students have been doing the 20 dollar boss program and they are nearing completion of the activity. Some examples of the businesses that students have established are, cake shops, jewellery stores, Hot Dog stands and Dog walking services. The course involved students completing bonding activities which they approached in a positive and competitive manner.

Senior Courses

Year 11 students are approaching the conclusion of their Preliminary HSIE courses and are now focusing on consolidating syllabus content and written communication skills in preparation for their End of Course exams.

Year 12 students are returning to class this week and will be completing coursework and revision for the HSC examinations.
