Year 12 Graduation

Once again the events surrounding the Year 12 Graduation have been a highlight of the school year. Approximately 570 people attended the Valedictory dinner where parents, guardians, grandparents and siblings joined the students in celebrating their achievements. On Thursday, a full school assembly was held to farewell the students and this was once again an emotional time for all involved. I would like to acknowledge the contribution of Greg Bristol this year for his leadership in this area. Thank you to the many families who now end their formal connection with the school, and we look forward to hearing of the successes and achievements of these young people in the years ahead.

College Captains 2018

We had six girls and six boys nominate for the positions of College Captain next year, and staff and students have participated in the voting process. The leaders were announced at the Assembly last Thursday morning.

School Captains for 2018 are Shae Montgomery and Lochie Pellegrino and the Vice Captains are Sallie Drill and Kane Wilson. I am confident that they will continue to do the good work carried out by previous leaders. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our 2017 leaders in Phoebe Gale, Dino Nicolopoulos Izzy Treacy and Jack McKindley for the terrific example they set for others to follow.

New Uniform Policy

After four meetings, last term, of the Uniform Committee made up of students, parents and teachers, some changes were made to our dress code. As is always the case, these changes will be introduced over a 12 to 18 month period so all current uniform items can still be worn, until worn out. The new uniform policy was recently endorsed by the School Council at their October meeting. These changes include the following: (a) a new rugby top which will, in time, replace the current school jumper; (b) a new PE uniform; (c) the withdrawal of the girls white polo – the options now are the white buttoned shirt or the bottle green polo; (d) a new design of the college spray jacket.

The new rugby top will be available at the uniform shops in town sometime in December. The re-designed spray jacket will not be available until Term 2 next year. In the meantime, the uniform shops are selling their current stock of  WPSC school spray jackets at the much reduced price of $60.00.

Traffic Congestion After School

With the roadworks now completed to the east of the school, we would love to see parents collecting their children in the new car parks in that area asking them to walk across the oval to meet you there. This would greatly assist with the traffic congestion at the front of the school which is becoming even worse, especially between 3.20pm and 3.40pm. There are over 100 spots in the car parks to the north and west of the tennis courts with easy access in and out of those parking bays. A short walk across the oval is a small price to pay for a safer environment at the front of the school.
