Design and Technology week in Victoria

Its Design and Technology week in Victoria so we its appropriate give a brief overview of what the subject is about and to recognise some of the products that have been made by WPSC students.

Design and Technology is a problem solving subject that focuses on innovative and sustainable solutions. All our VMG subjects are technically Design and Technology, however, we have given them particular names such as Basic Wood, Magic Metals, Home Eco and so on.

At a VCE level we revert back to the traditional names such as D&T Metal and D&T Wood. Design and Technology also caters for textiles and in a slightly different structure Food Technology. Employers locally value the skills of students who undertake this subject as they often have a point of difference when applying for jobs or further education. These “points of difference” are such things as using technology to improve a products functionality, utilising innovative processes to modify or improve a product and thinking through a specific task to ensure that they remain a step ahead of the process.

Textiles News

Most students have completed their heatpack and grey hoodie. We have experimented with the latest screen printing techniques and created a piece of fabric that will be made into a cosmetic bag using Chiku Chiku stitching  as the decoration. Students will insert a zipper and line their bags. We are also looking forward to the trip to Melbourne Stitches and Craft Show on Friday 21 October.
