Tasmanian Symphony Concert Excursion - Grades 2-4

Tuesday 16th May at 11:30am

Grades Two, Three and Four are going to be attending a performance by the TSO at Federation Hall next week.  The concert involves hearing some well-loved classics as well as a student interactive retelling of the story entitled, “Sir Scallywag and the Golden Underpants” by Giles Andrae, narrated by the composer Paul Rissmann.   We have been preparing this in our class music lessons as well as learning about the other works performed so that the students understand what they see and hear more effectively.

This is an exciting opportunity for our students to hear a world-class group of musicians live.  So much of our music today is recorded so this is an outstanding opportunity for the students to connect with the realities of sound.  In the not so distant past, if you didn’t make music yourself, you didn’t have music!  This concert will be reprised for families on Tuesday 16th May at 6pm if you wish to take in an excellent and accessible concert for the family.  Tickets are $10 for students and $31 for adults.

The students will leave after recess in the middle teaching block and return back to school for lunch at 1pm.  Teachers and classroom assistants will join us for our excursion.  The transport is by bus. There is no need for an additional snack, as they will eat before we leave and eat again on our arrival.  Watch this space for our report after this fantastic event!

Parent Tip for the Week: Reflect on respect!

This term, as we focus on what respect, manners and courtesy mean, we can reflect on how our words show respect.

Our words reveal our thoughts!  Are we respecting someone in our thoughts?  Are we respecting their feelings, intelligence and right to have an opinion, by the way we phrase our words?

We can express an idea positively or negatively.  We can say, “ This room’s a mess!  You can’t go out until it’s spotless!” OR “When you’ve tidied your room you can go out.  Would you like a hand?”  The second approach respects your rule but also respects your child’s ability to turn a problem into a positive outcome (with a bit of help from you)!

A positive statement gets a positive outcome and shows respect for the receiver!  Many positive statements build a positive culture in the family, at school and in the community.  They help to build a positive future!

“Let your conversation always be full of grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.” Colossians 4:6
