Junior School Cross Country

Last Friday, the Junior School ventured down to Lake Hamilton for the House Cross Country.  In a change from past years, races started and finished at the Adventure Playground.  The weather held out, with an acceptable 18 degrees and then a slight ‘Scottish mist’ at times.  The students gave their all, and were a great support to each other and their House mates.  Berry House triumphed on the day, with Laidlaw House in 2nd  place, Young House in 3rd , and Learmonth in 4th.  Special mention to 11 year old competitor Charlie Beggs, who broke the school Cross Country record by 3 seconds, recording a time of 12 minutes 44 seconds for the 3 kilometres.  The record was previously held by Young House legend Sam Horne, who ran 12 minutes 47 seconds as a 12 year old in 2007.  Special thanks to the parents and Piccinos who joined us for a picnic lunch after the racing.

Digital Technologies

This term, Digital Technologies has been the focus for the Junior School professional learning.  We have been guided by Mrs Anna Robertson, who has been leading the staff in developing a roadmap for the Junior School to integrate Digital Technologies into the teaching of Mathematics, English and Inquiry.  The Year Two class with Miss Brabham is about to embark on an exciting journey with ‘Lego WeDo 2.0’.  The programme uses a project progression defined by three phases - Explore, Create and Share.  Students will undertake a range of different projects with a science and engineering flavour, and will focus on computational thinking.

ELC4 Piccinos

Fridays have seen our ‘Piccino’ class venture out of the school and up to H.I.R.L. (Hamilton Institute of Rural Learning) for exploration and fun in the gardens.  Kitted out in gumboots and raincoats, they certainly made for a great sight heading down the Myrniong driveway with Mrs O’Brien and Mrs Williams.  It has been a great opportunity for them to delve into the outdoors with investigative play.

Year 5 'Camp Brownlows'

Congratulations to Chantal Jackson and Tom Heazlewood who were awarded ‘Camp Brownlow’ medals for their efforts on the Year 5 Cape Bridgewater camp.  On the last day of camp, the Auscamp leaders, teachers and students were asked to vote 3, 2 and 1 for students who showed resilience, teamwork, endeavour and enthusiasm.  Chantal and Tom accrued the most number of votes - well done!

L@M Project

This coming Friday sees the commencement of the fencing of the enclosure for the Year 3 L@M (Lambs at Myrniong) project.  We hope to commence the animal husbandry project in the first week of Term Three.  If families have orphaned lambs that they would like to donate for the project, please contact the Junior School. We are ideally looking to house 8 - 10 lambs.  We also need help with a shelter.  If you have any surplus materials that you would like to donate, please let us know.
