A Competition open to all students:
From time to time we get emails about opportunities for our students. This one is being run by ClickView (a video service we subscribe to for our Senior School) and ATOM (the Australian Teachers of Media) – both highly reputable.
ATOM and ClickView are proud to present the 1-Minute Film Competition 2017.
The competition provides Australian and New Zealand Primary and Secondary school students with the opportunity to make a 1-minute film or animation, and win up to $500 in the process. This is a great opportunity to get creative and enter a national competition.
The theme for this year's competition is 'Tomorrow'. Students are encouraged to be creative with the theme: they can include it in their film as a spoken line, in the background, as a caption, or in other creative ways. To enter, students must create a 1-minute film and submit it to one of the following four categories:
- Lower Primary (Years F-3)
- Upper Primary (Years 4-6)
- Lower Secondary (Years 7-9)
- Upper Secondary (Years 10-12)
You can see the success of last year's competition by clicking on the link.
The four first-place prizes include $500 in cash!
Entries close at midday AEST, Friday 28 July
Senior School:
By the time you read this, Zoe, our Captain, will have launched our new knitting club. This is an initiative that has been in the pipeline for some time, and now we are into Winter it seems like the time is right! Students and teachers are welcome to join in on Thursdays and either work on their own piece of knitting, or use our needles and wool to knit squares to be made into blankets for charity. During this process Zoe has been spending time in the MYPEC talking to younger students and personally inviting them to come along. Ideally, she and I would like to see someone in the Middle Years take on leadership of the club in much the same way that Lachlan Tonissen has stepped up to the mark for our wonderful Book Club.
Junior School:
Those of you who walk through the Handbury building will notice the fantastic array of creations made by our junior students in their Library lesson. The most recent additions relate to a book called Hello to You Moon which Mr Nelson shared with ELC. This book came into our collection as part of a standing order arrangement that we have with Lamont Books. For a set amount of money, we get a box of books delivered once per month targeted at all age groups. This company has an excellent track record, and shares information on all the books they provide us as teachers. You can read about the book here.
