Principal's Report

‘Gonski 2.0’ a welcome kick start to robust policy debate
(AHISA MEDIA RELEASE)
The Australian Government’s announcement of its future school funding plans has caused a variety of responses. The Hamilton and Alexandra College welcomes the government’s commitment of more funds for school education, and its commitment to a funding system based on the needs of independent students. The Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA) has also welcomed the Turnbull Government’s announcement of a consultative review to provide policy advice on educational reform. We agree that the current funding system lacks clarity and is overly-complex. We look forward to hearing more detail on the government’s plans so that we can properly assess the implications. Without this detail, schools cannot make long-term plans. Most importantly, school leaders welcome Mr Gonski’s review into ways to ensure school funding is used to improve student achievement.
Finally, please be aware that at last week’s Board AGM, John Diprose OAM was re-elected Chair for 2017. The Board also recognised the outstanding service and contribution of retiring members Deputy Chair Rosie Rowe (2009-2017) and Chair of Strategic Planning Committee Andy Sutherland (1998-2017).
