Rowing

Last weekend, 23 seasoned rowers travelled back to Dimboola for the esteemed Dimboola Rowing Club Regatta. On the Saturday, rowers participated in the sprint races of 750m, with each crew entered in multiple races throughout the day. Competition was tough with a record number of entries from clubs from all over the state, many crews competed well in their heats with a few managing to qualify for finals. Special mention to the first boys’, Tom Hirst, Milo Cooper, Sam Crawford, Liam Jeffery, coxed by Millie Howells, who won their C grade final with a very tight finish.

On Sunday, rowers prepared for the 6.2km Head of the Wimmera race. Rowers were required to row to the start line and then race against the clock in their return trip. All crews were very appreciative of their coxes who did a fantastic job navigating the challenging course. We had some very close finished with the first boys’ crew only being 15 seconds behind their rival Kardinia crew, and also with two of the girls’ crews only finishing with a second between them.

Rowers appreciated the lengths their coaches went to throughout the weekend driving along the river in the 6.2km race, cheering them on as they rowed past. Our coaches played a huge role in getting crews ready for the regatta and we really appreciate their support in our club. A massive thank you to Dr Hirst and Trine Hirst for their flawless organization over the weekend allowing the trip to Dimboola to be an enjoyable weekend for everyone.

Any students interested in trying rowing are most welcome to come along to a Tuesday or Thursday training session after school.

College Gold v Gollege Blue

The second day of the College Gold V College Blue match was played on Saturday with College Blue winning in convincing fashion, earning the coveted bragging rights between the two teams.

Early wickets were going to be key for Gold if they were to defend their total of 93 and Blue’s opening partnership consisting of stars Jack Wortley and Henry Bensch ensured that this did not happen, combining to make 114 runs, taking the team past the required score and both retiring on 50. While the game had already been lost, Gold persisted, bowling Blue out for 157, taking 8 wickets for 43 runs in an impressive effort. They can take great confidence out of knowing that they have the ability to bowl teams out quickly. Tom O’Sullivan was the pick of the bowlers for College Gold while Jake Tonissen made a late, quickfire 17 for College Blue. Both teams will look to cement their places in the top 4 in coming weeks with College Blue sitting in second and College Gold in third.

In the U/12’s, College Gold and College Blue managed to get their games in despite it being a wet afternoon, however College Eagles’ game against Macarthur was unfortunately washed out. In Gold’s game against Casterton, captain Rupert Merrin led from the front, retiring with the bat and also bowling well. For Blue, Jack Mann and Finley Hiscock both retired while Will Baker picked up two wickets. All teams will be looking to have a strong finish to the first half of the season.

College CC - 'Panel or a Picket Project'

We've had some brilliant support for our 'Panel or a Picket Project' over the past few weeks but also a few questions about what acknowledgement might look like. We've had some signs mocked up as examples of what your plaques would like if you purchase a Panel or a Picket and they're attached below.

The intention is to send all those who make a donation, a form allowing them to specify exactly what wording they would like on the plaque, within a designated character count. For businesses wanting to purchase a panel, we can have it designed to incorporate a business logo (as per the example attached). This form will be sent once we get closer to to a closing date.

If you have any queries, please don't hesitate to ask.

College Basketball Presentation Night

6pm, Thursday 5th December 2019

Our inaugural College Basketball Senior Presentation Night is being held at 6pm on Thursday 5th December.  Awards will be presented in the Geoff Handbury Sports Centre, followed by a BBQ Dinner outside the MYPEC Building. The cost will be: Families $20, Adults $10 and Students $5. Invitations with further information are in the process of being sent out.

This is an evening to bring together the College Basketball Community whilst celebrating the individual efforts of our basketball participants throughout 2019.

We will be presenting a peak award named in honour of the late Dr David Baring. David’s contribution to basketball at a club and association level was well recognised and now greatly missed. It is only appropriate that we establish this award and award it for the first time this year.

We will also be presenting three new awards for Male Player of the Year, Female Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Nominations for all awards are now open and information regarding criteria for each of the four awards has been emailed out and can also be found on our Facebook page or Team App.

If there are any individuals, families or businesses that are interested in sponsoring an award, please contact Miss Brabham directly by Wednesday 20th November.

We will also be holding an end of year breakup lunch for junior basketballers (under 10, under 12 and under 14) at the Junior Campus. Information regarding this will be sent home early next week.
