Middle Years

Successful

This week Year 6 students participated in the 2020 Year 7 Orientation Day. Students enjoyed Senior School life for a day. This day allowed them to talk about the transition process, explore myPEC, participate in a range of activities and to get a feel for their new secondary school environment. Our aim is to ensure that all students feel comfortable about their transition into myPEC. It was wonderful to welcome Year 6 parents to our morning tea and information session.

“Secrets of Adulthood” Gretchen Rubin’s advice;

  1. Ask for help; its ok to ask for help despite the difficulties of getting started and floundering. Ask your friends, parents and teachers for advice.
  2. By doing a little bit each day you can accomplish a lot. We tend to over estimate how much we can achieve in an hour or a week, and underestimate how much we can do in a month or a year.
  3. Enjoy the fun of failure. We have an innate part of us that needs to be stretched and we need to be pushed outside our comfort zone. We need to push ourselves to discover who we are, and that it is fun to fail and its part of being ambitious. We need to embrace failure and realise we won’t reach every goal.
  4. Work smart to boost efficiency. Work in effective blocks of time and spend time ‘tidying up’ and getting organised for the next day. Small actions will bring about significant results.
  5. Enjoy now. Enjoy the gradual progress as you head towards your goal. Finding enjoyment in what you’re doing is part of the fun.

Our Year 8 students have been on camp this week and we look forward to hearing their adventures.

Our Year 7 students are finishing their core work in the lead up to the examinations in Week 9.

Finally, I often talk about the characteristics of conscientious students. We are at the ‘business end’ of the year and students need to accept the challenges of the next few weeks.

Conscientious students:

  1. Are motivation to do well academically
  2. Are organised
  3. Are harder working
  4. Are diligent
  5. Are self-disciplined
  6. Are achievement orientated
  7. Are open to new experiences
  8. Are committed to their learning
  9. Have a ‘can do’ attitude to studying
