Girls' Hockey Report
A Grade
Despite missing their star Year 10 players, the A Grade Strikers recorded a convincing win over Monivae. Natalie Featherston, Milly Howells, Rosie Dopheide, Micaela Myer and Jody Russell all joined the squad for their first taste of A Grade and all made an important contribution. Lead by captain Hannah Russell the Strikers dominated the game. Phoebe Russell and Chloe Andersen both enjoyed their night up forward, but the highlight was certainly Natalie and Milly scoring their first goals. Micaela Myer was very unlucky not to have one as well with her strike rebounding off the post.
Better Players: Phoebe Russell, Chloe Andersen and Hannah Russell
B Grade
College Scorchers had a great tussle against Monivae eventually winning 3-1. The girls found themselves down a goal early but managed to even the score with a great running goal from Natalie Featherston. Ashleigh McNaughton and Hettie Byrne also scored mid-way through the second half to put the game beyond doubt.
Better Players: Natalie Featherston, Ashleigh McNaugton, Jordy Brown and Sophie Merrin.
Unfortunately, the B Grade Blades had to forfeit their game against Demons.

Under 16 Hockey
With all teams under pressure to field full squads in the absence of the Year 10s, our Under 16 line-ups had significant changes to their normal appearance last week.
College Red met Coleraine Red in the early game. With the addition of Ava Mould and Izzy Adamson, two sisters enlisted to help out their brothers’ team, and the return of Emily McNaughton in goals, the team began the game with an interchange player. Ten minutes into the game, they were down to ten players after Finley McLindin suffered a hand injury and Harry Mould copped a glancing blow from a stick to his left ear. Although the team enjoyed some early moments of dominance, the tide turned and they were forced to defend more frequently. A Tobe Adamson goal from a corner was to be the only scoreboard reward the team gained and Coleraine found the net seven times. Despite the score-line, there was much to like: effort to the end, some strong attacking runs, the stepping up of some players who have perhaps been a little in the shadows so far this season and the determination to enjoy playing hockey on a Saturday morning.
In the second game, Blue met Gold. Gold was more seriously affected in terms of player numbers by the absence of the senior players but neither team had a full complement. Jake Butcher joined his brother at Under 16 level and performed very well for Gold. Other prominent Gold players were Lachie Rees, Isaac Hocking and Jorja Hermon, while goalie Hamish Jeffery made several fine saves. Despite their efforts, however, Blue proved too strong with some fine team-play evident. Jack Austin was everywhere and Nat Featherstone, Ben Potter and Harry Austin were notable players. Blue managed to score an 8-3 victory (goalscorers: Blue - Harry Austin 3, Ben Potter 2, Charlie Duver, Jack Austrin and Nat Featherstone; Gold – Lachie Rees, Isaac Hocking and Jake Butcher).
Red and Blue have already played their game from this week so Gold will fly the college flag on the first Saturday of the holidays. The competition is tight and all three teams will return after the break with little between them and all well in contention for a finals spot.
Boys' Hockey
Things looked dire for the Open team last weekend with over a third of the regular team unavailable and a match against the top team scheduled. Fortunately, Tobe Adamson stepped up and offered his services and our Captain was able to arrange a few mates who were in town for a hockey training session to stay and play. And so we had a team!
The visitors added skill and vision and our boys really stepped up to play some committed and convincing hockey. Goals to our Captain Reagan Simons, Tane Nelson, Jock Adamson, Isaac Hocking and Lachie Armstrong, with a sixth from Dalton Barby, one of our additions, saw us record a 6-4 victory over competition leaders Bulls. To be fair, our opponents were undermanned but, as usual, they pushed hard and created their own opportunities. Reagan Simons and Tane Nelson stood out amongst our regulars, but all the boys played their part and contributed to the result.
We also played our scheduled game from this weekend ahead of time and so the Open team head into a break now – with the ICCES Carnival in Shepparton for many of the boys. In that competition, we are fielding a mixed team and the boys are looking forward to working with four Year 12 girls who play in the Open Women’s team. Hopefully, we can defend our title up north!

College Magpies Football
Sunday the 16th of June saw College Magpies play Kokoda at Pedrina park. It was a great game for Kokoda as they won convincingly.
The first Quarter saw Kokoda get off to a great start with two goals and one point, with College Magpies only able to score one point. Unfortunately this set the tone for the whole game. In the second Quarter Kokoda kicked another two goals and two points, which saw them take a 26 point lead into the main break.
The third Quarter saw one of the few College Magpies highlights, with Jude Alexander kicking their one and only goal.
Kokoda continued their dominance in the last quarter kicking another three goals to finish the game with 53 points, over the College Magpies on 9 points.
Better players for College Magpies were Jake Tonissen, Jock Nicholls, Tom Heazlewood, Tom O’Sullivan and George Huf.

Basketball
The 2019 Summer season has been a successful one for College basketball. We have been well represented in finals, at both a Junior and Senior level.
On Friday night, the Under 12 B Girls, the College Snowy Owls were impressive in their Grand Final, beating Good Shepherd College 32-19. The girls have really developed over the season and played their final as a cohesive team unit. Well done to all the girls and coach Emily Hausler.
The Under 14 B Girls, the College Wise Owls also had a successful night, winning their Grand Final 33-26 against Athletics. The girls started off slow, but were able to bring the score back to level. The second half was a goal for goal battle, but in the end, our girls came away with the win. A fantastic season for the girls and coach Holly McLeod.
On Tuesday night, the Division 4 Women’s team, the College Tawny Owls, were able to hold off Tigers to win their Grand Final, 38-31. The girls played well as a team and should be very proud of their first season playing Senior basketball. Victoria Dunstan was awarded the MVP for the match. Well done to the girls and Mrs Erica James, their coach.
The Division 2B Men’s team, the College Barking Owls had a nail-biter of a Grand Final, unfortunately losing to St Mary’s by just 2 points. The team fought hard all night and played exceptionally well considering over half their regular season team were away on camp. Well done to all the boys who played on the night and to coach Barry Hawker.
Well done to Grace Austin for winning the 2019 Summer Season MVP for Division 3 Women and to Finlay Cameron for winning MVP for Division 4 Women.
